Well, if one CPU has a problem and another does not it is an indicator that one of them has a bug ;)
??? no SPR-SP D0 freeze on C741 but on W790.
W790 BIOS has a bug ( or just don't support SP models )

Sorry I am jumping in super late into the thread, but are there any "sapphire rapids refresh" ES/QS (e.g. 2565x equivalents) chips out in the wild yet?

it's a refresh with same stepping & cpuid. no ES("0000"), only QS.
QS are still expensive, it makes no sense to pay half of a retail price without having any warranty.

Hello here! I am also jumping in a bit late onto this train. I have just acquired a Supermicro X13SEDW-F in a great deal and now I am looking for a CPU to use it. Despite the funky form factor, it has normal interfaces - like ATX power, etc. No classic PCIe slots (need a left/right riser, or a cable adaptor), but I am planning to rather utilize NVMe's on a cable, when it starts to work.

Had a brief chat with Josef and I am now aware of bigger limitations on SM to the almost retail / latest validation samples... anybody here with an X13 system to tell the experiences / what to look for here?

Eventually I am able and willing to try a CPU that goes around - I am based in Prague, CZ.

On SW side - I have heard of some debug bios existence, could it be taken into pieces and merged with a later bios revision, to enable wider model support?

if you want to run ES (not QS) stay away form supermicro.
no Debug/Test BIOS for this model.
supermicro server boards use Root Of Trust (RoT) Firmware,
no way get mod. BIOS to work. BIOS content is checked at power up and is sampled while running.

Recently LGA4677 SPR prod units finally started channeling through on ebay at attractive performance per core prices, e.g 6450C ( 1S - 30 low-frequency cores for around $100) as I've posted in ES Xeon Discussion thread (or Xeon MAX 9480 for $1.7K+), most other ebay offers as still crazy expensive and are often not cost-justified for home test labs.

It's probably worth adding 8465C and 8481C next in line into SPR affordability list, everything else is IMV pretty much rubbish from value for money perspective (especially Bronze/Silver range being completely crazy!).

I have seen that 9480 MAX, but its benefit for the given price is questionable for me (well.. it would make sense to run it HBM only for sure before I get some decent DDR5 sticks). I was quite happy back in the times with the Xeon Phis having the on-package memory usable as RAM (had 7250 with 16GB). The decision to not go there besides the price was a no explicit mention of support on the mainboard I have (but at least in the X13 they got the VRM right and all boards can do 350W... with X11 it was a pain to always crosscheck the VRM power capability).

similar like with LGA3647 socket and omnipath fabric 'F' processors. the motherboard needs extra voltage rail which most boards lack.
indeed, for HBM models you need extra voltage for HBM on the socket, and BIOS support and right CPLD firmware...

During fresh installation via USB or windows upgrade, the display is either blank or displays an error message, preventing windows from booting

I just can't install windows or upgrade to 24h2.

I would like to help you, but I have not encountered this with 24H2. I installed 24H2 several times and have not encountered this. I had SAGE with bios 0215 and the MS03 with R08. I no longer have SAGE, so I cannot try it with a newer bios.
