I've used use HP H240's. $25 when cheap and $45 when expensive last year.You got any suggestion for a cheap $20 or less 8 port sas controller that will recognize these 10TB+ or bigger drives? I tried adaptec 52445 and 6805T and seems no go even with latest firmware

On another matter, @wildpig1234 , your ASR-6805t is NOT your problem (since a 4TB drive works). You gave no relevant info in your help request thread [Link]; I (and maybe others) don't like playing "20 Questions" -- you've used what I call the Mushroom Method Keep 'em in the dark & feed 'em sh*t . Try giving ALL the information possible. Don't attempt to "filter" it; if you knew what was/wasn't relevant, you probably wouldn't need any help.

Some (hopefully) constructive criticism:Both the 52445 and 6805t are using the latest firmware listed on adaptec site. Both will recognize the 4TB HGST fine.
However, neither will work properly with the 10TB. the 52445 controller would say "kernel panic" and not even load the controller bios when the drive is connected. the 6805t would say drive not supported.

Yeah, well, I think it's coming to an end with adaptec for me right now this time since I now have ten 10TB hdd which should last me for about 2+ years of archival. So for that duration i will be using the dell H310My last experience with Adaptec many years ago was unpleasant enough to keep me in the LSI world ever since. My most common HBA is the H310. No doubt Dell sold a boat load of them and no doubt there are still a boat load of them in service.
Seems like the 7805 uses a different breakout cable than the 6805? I have already invested in the type of cable used in the 6805 and the dell h310 so I guess i will stick to the older cable.Yeah, nowadays, I recommend at *least* an ASR-7805 or above if going Adaptec. If using LSI, then any 2nd gen SAS HBA will do, even a 9212-4i4e or a 9211-4i/8i. The older Adaptec cards like what you have should work, but for some reason, they can be finicky.
The good news is you can get a 7805 for around $20 bucks or less on ebay if you look around like @Marsh mentioned. :.)
It is NOT the large capacity (after all, your 4TB drive is OK). It IS the 4Kn!... since they seem to be too picky about what large capacity drive they want to work with!
Well, i need an adaptor will a lot of flexibility and the adaptec 54225 andd 6805 inability to work with the 4kn drives would be a problem. Who knows how many more of these drives will be sold from now on and what i can get my hand on. (On the 6805t, you would be perfectly fine with HUH721010AL5200 10TB drives. On the 52445, you could be fine--it would depend on the board's Revision.)
