haha I know. Intel really killed it this time. My excitement for Xeon D is still strong. Hoping for dual 10GBe (single is fine) and a few 1GBe connections and 64GB of DDR4 all in a quiet low power setup. This thing is going to be huge!

I'd like one D-1540 server & one D-1520 server, both with 64B of RAM and a HBA in the D-1520 system (NAS). 10GBe connection between them and an addon multi-port 1GBe card in the D-1540 system (VM Host).

"Just confirmed with both SYS and MBD Part Manager. ETA are all for MBD and SYS are all delayed by Intel until End of Oct. Xeon-D SOC processor will not be available prior to end of September for us to start building MBD for them. None will be released in April/May timeframe."

Uhhh, wahhhh??

@Patrick - you hear anything about this?

Mind sharing where that came from (I can guess but wanted to confirm)? PM if needed. I can dig from there. Will have a touchpoint with Intel early next week also to discuss.

would it be so cool if someone notebook manufacturer throws in 45w 8 core Xeon D with a discrete graphic? a laptop that can take 64+gb of memory... with dual 2.5in NVMe ssd

Likely not going to happen but a 15" MacBook Pro with the 1540, 64GB Ram with dual PCIE SSD would make a great editing/developer workstation.

The usual early-stock "bandit" sites are listing the X10SDV for delivery in 10 days @ $1388(!) or 1,083 euros (ex vat). Since these guys usually go with a 40+% markup over list you can expect this board to come to real active markets at about $899. Steep - but as Patrick points out by the time you outfit a similar E5 system is probably a deal.
Sure this is lower power with support for larger DIMMs, but why not just get the Single Socket 2011?
EDIT: Like Piglover reported, although not sure why he chose the E5-2630Lv3

X9SRH-7TF
with 512GB RAM support and 10 GBe built-in.
E5-1620 v3 (10M Cache, 3.50 GHz)
~$514 + $307 (quad 3.5) = $821

This D1540 is estimated at about $900, so its a premium for low power and more cores that seam slower but good in aggregate. I'm thinking the new E3 platform will erode the value proposition and Intel will probably not lower Xeon D pricing. It does not look like a steal of a deal to me.

it is a steal in itx and mATX and cloud computing world....pretty much a mix of E3 and E5
