x12 and ES step 4 or 5 is bad solution. you stuck on buggy BIOS forever.
at the risk of repeating myself:
avoid supermicro if you want to run non PRD stepping ES
Yes, I gave up all attempts and returned X12SPL, but the CPU is very difficult to handle,it's can't return. The problem is not with the supermicro because it can run PRD CPU very well, but with the es CPU. Should never try ICX Step5

they run fine with X12SPi-N6 up to BIOS 1.1b for some reason. maybe some OEMs still need to run them.
No x12spi-n6 found only x12dpi-n6 and x12spi-tf. Tried mu72-su0, the hwinfo/cpuz bug still exists and there is a problem of a single core being continuously full (supermicro does not have this problem),I don't plan to continue trying to use this CPU full of bug

Thank you for your replies, they are very helpful

I see that QYFQ D0 is working on Asus W790E Sage, is this also the case for QYFU? And is QYFU superior to QYFQ since it can run at higher clockspeeds?
i see no reason why QYFU should not working.
i have WS W790 Ace and QYFQ,QYFP,QY0C and QY06 runs fine with BIOS 0403
(still issues with BIOS 0506/0705 win10/11 - circle dots freeze, except with QYF )
BIOS tweak solved that issue.
And is QYFU superior to QYFQ since it can run at higher clockspeeds?
yes but note QYFU is single socket only(in case you want to sell it in the future)
QYFU base 1.8Ghz turbo 3.5 Ghz, all core nonAVX 2,9 Ghz , 300W
QYFQbase 1.5Ghz turbo 3.3 Ghz, all core nonAVX 2,5 Ghz , 270W

on LGA4189 platform recently ASRock Rack and Gigabyte removed non PRD stepping ES support.
but there are BIOS you can go back to or someone can mod. BIOS.
note: supermicro's BIOS is signed and protected by RootOfTrust. no way for modding.
There are still L0/C0 step-microcode displays (tables) in the newly released bios relNote PDF files for md72 and mu72, but do they no longer support these CPUs?

even these MCUs are still available in the supermicro BIOSs. but nor work,
imho intel ME/CSE/SPS is blocking before any x86 code is executed.
on gigabyte you may able to update BIOS but not ME/SPS.

Thank you for the response, really appreciate the info! Just a couple more questions, do you happen to know if the supermicro X13SWA-TF motherboard can run these CPUs too?
And I'd imagine if the Asus W790 Ace can take QYFQ,QYFP,QY0C and QY06, then something like QYFR and QYFX should also theoretically run, right?

Hello, did a bit of searching and unable to find any leads so far.

8273CL in X11DPI-NT boot loops with BIOS 3.8a. Is there any chance of making this work?

yes, but not tested.

NO, supermicro removed PRD stepping microcode D0 cpuid806f3 (same Tyan and ASRockRack)
if you want to run non PRD stepping ES, stay away from supermicro.
X13SWA runs not Root of Trust(RoT) firmware, maybe you can add the microcode, but I'm afraid it still doesn't work then.

Thank you for the reply! You have been extremely helpful. I’ll report back here once I finalise my build and get it running

you should expect drop of memory channels over time (silicon bug of ICX ES1)
You are right, they didm't work.

Also, although they work with Gb MD72-HBX, that MB got some issue with pcie slot (3 slots not work with pcie riser, need retimer card)

I'm currenly plan to moving to ES2 CPU (qwaq, qwas), I'm woundering if these work fine with SM X12DAI or X12DPG with 1.4b bios?

Thanks in advance.

Got this from X12DAI 1.5 BIOS:
