Today i have disable in bios all pcie ports exept port1 (lan) and port7 (jmb585), but i did not get any power consumption benefits i still use 28-30W. Only difference i manage to get is when you disable port 7 cpu go to C6 insted of C3 but drives i did not unplug so thay still are spinning so to my suprise power consumption stay same when controller is disable or enable and cpu is in C3 or C6
That's more or less what I've observed. I don't think fiddling with C-states really helps with power consumption.

Wasnt the consensus earlier on this thread that the SATA splitter chip is actually consuming a fair bit of power itself?

RE my weird powertop issue, I created a script in Truenas that calls powertop --auto-tune and creates a file. If that file exists, then the script just exits instead. Then I created a service to delete that flag file on boot. So assuming I use only that script I can't accidentally call it again.

No, the SATA chip itself does not consume that much power. The issue is that JMB585 prevents the system to go into deeper C-States due to the lack of PCIe native power management (ASPM). That alone accounts for 10-15W at idle

Well that sucks. I already ordered mine and am waiting for delivery. I hope they get back to you soon. I've had good luck with them in the past.

UGH. I can tolerate a few extra watts but that's unfortunate for sure. At least it's still better on power than a typical PC but I wish this was a better situation. The JMB585 is otherwise a solid chip.

Just wanted to update on my "not booting from SATA" issue with my BKHD-1264-NAS board: Apparently it only supports UEFI and not legacy, and won't even show HDD's that are legacy bootable. After reinstalling Proxmox the SATA drives worked fine (but I had to wipe them in the process). I had intended to simply move them over from the old, power-hungry mainboard to the new NAS board, without reinstall. I still think it's not correct of the BIOS to simply pretend the HD's are not present at all, and not offer them as boot devices, just because it doesn't recognize their formatting.

With all controllers enable and like before all disconnected power consumption is same, maybe 1w more and cpu is in C3

37w when all drive are running (1 ssd and 4 hdd's 8tb,2x4tb,3tb)

25w when all drives are not running exept ssd
30w when i plug all fans (1 80mm, 2 120mm one without led and one with)

Hi folks! Not sure if any of you tried this use case with this board. I got the MW-NVR-N5105 and I am trying to use it with a SATA port multiplier card in the NVME M2 port (https://www.amazon.de/-/en/dp/B0BVMBDG4B) since I have several spinning disks I want to use with my setup. The card uses JMB575 controller and I assume since the board is using JMB585 will work out-of-the-box. However, the disks connected to the board will not show up in either TrueNAS or Unraid, not even in BIOS under NVME or SATA settings. Have any of you been able to use such a card with this motherboard?

I might be wrong, but I think the JMB575 is only a port multiplier, so it would require an M.2 slot that supports both SATA and NVME? Pretty sure all the various boards in this thread only support NVME on the M.2 slots.

It's possible something like the SilverStone ECS07 would work, since it has an JMB585 chip which is a proper PCIe -> 5x SATA port controller:

That said, none of these JMB chips are highly recommend, so YMMV when it comes to how well it actually works.

i bought the 12V version with an N305 processor.
there was no documentation.
i connected three 16TB disks and used the 12V power connectors (black) on the board to power them.
blew all three disks. there goes €850.
expensive mistake.

the supplied combined sata/power cable is too short of just about any case. certainly true for the fractal node 804 case that i bought.

i cannot find any information about this cable.

please be aware!

Thats why you newer connect anything if you dont know what it is. My advice would be, ask the seller for documentation. I asked my seller all sorts of things

My CWWK board arrived, time to experiment!

So far everything is working fine. I ran MemTest86 for a couple hours with zero errors. I was also able to be Ubuntu Server installed on it without a single hiccup.

One observation about the HDMI port - it works, but not with all monitors, apparently. Having read this thread I started with Display Port. I then moved to an HDMI-only monitor. It connected but the display stayed blank. I went back to the first monitor that I had originally used with Display Port but connected it via HDMI instead. It works fine. From what I can gather from my board, HDMI port works but perhaps at a resolution that not all monitors will support. It looks like BIOS defaulted to 4K resolution. The HDMI-only monitor I was trying is 1080p. I've not tried it yet but it may be that if there is an OS running that will drop the resolution on boot that maybe HDMI will be okay with the other monitors?

All disconnected and just usb keyboard and unraid usb, no fans no drives no nothing and im pulling 20w from wall and im in C6
How did you disable the JMB58x?

On my bios on bkhd version, i have option inside advanced menu, and then inside pcie options, list of all available pcie lanes, and in my case i needed to disable pcie port 7. And my unraid in that point did not see disks that are connect to my board, if this really disable controller or just prevents os to see it i dont know. When we talking about disabling or enabeling things, i have disabled option for sata controller, but funny thing is that unraid works just fine and all of my 5 disks are visible, so maybe this disable m.2 slots, i dont know.

Hey guys. Is anyone using the N100 version of this board with Unraid? I saw some people on this thread saying that they run it without issue, but I have a couple of problems. First, sleep does not seem to work, no matter what settings I change in the bios. The system goes to sleep but then immediately wakes up. So now I chose to shut down instead of sleep.
But the biggest problem is when I shut down. When I power on the system after a clean shut down then I cannot boot anymore, I am sent to the bios screen. I believe that the USB ports are no longer working because the keyboard and flash drive are no longer detected.
As far as I can tell, only the USB-C port works, if I plug the keyboard in that port it is detected. But even so, if I plug the USB flash drive, the system would still not boot. To fix this I have to completely cut power to the system (unplug the power cord or hit the switch on the power supply).
I am using 3 HDDs, 1 SATA SSD and one NVME drive and a 650W power supply with 8GB of DDR5 4800Mhz RAM. I run the system headless with only one Ethernet cable connected in the first port.
All bios settings are the default ones. Curiously, if I do a reboot everything works OK there is no problem with booting.
Other than this, the performance of the board is good.
Any suggestions would be appreciated, thank you.

Hey guys. Is anyone using the N100 version of this board with Unraid?
Do you have BKHD or CWWK, if you have BKHD, then i dont know what to tell you, i have problems that my system can go to sleep and stay thare and i can send wol packet to wake it up, but after that i cant access gui so it seems that system is frozen. So i insted, like you, put system to shutdown but i dont have problems starting it up.

I am using Unraid and sleep just doesn't work. The only issue I have at the moment is that Unraid is not able to boot with c states enabled.

@bugmenot : I have the CWWK version; so it seems that even if it goes to sleep there would be issues when it wakes up, that is a bummer
@heyelly : strange, as far as I can tell the C states are not enabled by default but I am not able to boot after a shutdown, maybe there is something to do with RAM and cutting all power resets it somehow? I am not sure.

On my bios on bkhd version, i have option inside advanced menu, and then inside pcie options, list of all available pcie lanes, and in my case i needed to disable pcie port 7.
Thanks! Yeah, there is a similar option on CWWK but I think the layout of the PCIe ports are different. I will try to line up the ports listed in BIOS and target it.

Most of CWWKs offerings are intended to be running 24x7. They are multi-NIC and multi-drive systems that run NASes, firewalls, host VMs, and so forth. My two CWWK systems, including this board, are just like that - I expect them to always be on and to never sleep. For sure this is something that should be fixed but at the same time I wouldn't be surprised if this was a scenario they didn't really test because they didn't plan on these computers going to sleep. It's just like years ago when I was looking to spin down idle drives in an MD RAID array in Linux and the general attitude was "Why do you want to do that? The whole purpose is availability and sleeping is not part of the design."

Yes, you are right, if you were to run this 24x7 then there would be no issues.
That was my initial plan, to have it run as my router and all of my dockers and Unraid, but then I thought that would be a bad idea since if it were to crash for some reason I would lose everything for a while. So I decided to get another system for my router and dockers which I run on Proxmox (an MSI Cubi N with two Ethernet ports) which I run 24x7 and keep this board for my NAS/Media server. If one of them fails, I could probably transfer some of my stuff to the other and be up and running sooner.
