ch341a can only flash pin. there are special SOP16 to Dip8 clamps.
you don't need /reset 4-6 and 11-14 are nc
Thanks, although I'm not sure what to do with this information :(

The clamp I currently have (and is pictured above) is This one

Do I need Something like : THIS instead?

I guess I'm being dumb, but with the BMC dead, I don't know how to startup this motherboard. If there's a way to startup the motherboard, please let me know :). When I apply power it comes up with the FPGA CRC fault LED on, and nothing will cause it to power up further than that....
i gueess you have broken FPGA(CPLD) too, afaik no way then.

The SOIC16 clip is here now, but I have a feeling that's wired up wrong.... I can't get flashrom to recognise either the BMC or the BIOS chip.

Presumably the red cable is supposed to connect to the red dot pin on the chip, but the way it's wired that isn't a valid orientation...
if you look at the ch341a pinout, pin1 of the socket doesn't match pin1 of the cable.

Hi - has anyone actually figured out which PINS are which on the BMI console header?

I've been through all the combinations, and whilst several result in garbled output, I've not yet managed to get a usable console session.

Background - fairly sure I've bricked the BMI firmware by loading the one that's too big :(

Hoping to restore it over a serial console.

Tried both minicom and two (at 115200 BAUD no flow control stopbits 1, parity none, databits 8)

@adam2eden @MartB

TIA

Matt
I didn't figure out how to fix it with the serial port.

I ended up reprogram my BIOS using a clip and a programmer. Unfortunately I didn't write down the steps. I found a few bookmarks I saved from that time though, and a photo showing the setup.

winbond 25q256jvfq 16pin`

I remember the data sheet of the chip also helped me a lot.

I also opened an RMA with Tyan and they were willing to fix it for ~$80 even the warranty expired. That was my back up plan at the time.

Ok thanks.

Starting to make sense now.
So we need to connect to pins 1,2,7,8,9,10,15,16 on the chip to 1-8 on the 25XX “half”, right?
Hmm. So I got the clip from Ali, and suspect I'm still doing something wrong.

Flashrom says:
```
Couldn't open device 1a86:5512.
Error: Programmer initialization failed.```
The PSU is disconnected from the mains, and the CMOS battery is out, but when I connect the clip LEDs light up on the Mobo.
Tried every possible orientation (there are only 4), and no dice. I have the 3.3V jumper set on the CH341a, presumably that's correct?
if you never used this it's hard to say what the issue is now.
remove/disconnect anything.
the light come up, thats expected, because the BIOS chip is supplied by 3.3V
in some rare cases this in circuit programming is impossible.
Is the 64MB BMC worth the premium +$100?
Last I heard Tyan was able to get the motherboard and replace the BMC for a fee. At least when I was in the Bay Area, Supermicro and Tyan both had quick turnaround times for RMAs etc - around a week. Are they quoting you $100 for the BMC replacement ?
Hi, people,
I recently purchased one of these boards for a workstation build I was assembling. I went through some of the pages of this thread, and saw there is a lot concerning this board, and could not quite figure out where/how to fix the particular issue I am facing.
I just assembled the parts, but the system is not posting. I am using an Epyc 7C13, with 512 GB of RAM with 8 Samsung
M386A8K40BM2-CTD 64 GB modules, and the Tyan S8030 GM2ME board. When I purchased, I took care to choose parts that were in the motherboard QVL.
I am also using a Noctua NH-U14S TR4-SP3 as cooler, a Nvidia Titan V as GPU and a MSI MEG Ai1300P as PSU. I am using an Adata Legend 512 GB Nvme drive which I intend to install the OS on, when I am finally able to boot.
When I turn the system on, the BMC led keeps blinking, indefinetly. As far as I could find, this indicates that the board is configured for remote management, and it should be possible to revert it back to local management. Since I haven't done anything like this before, I couldn't quite figure out how to do it, that is why I am asking for help.
Any suggestions/guide on how to do it?
Thanks in advance
José Hugo
P.S.: My situation seems similar to to the user Slatts from a while ago. Also, I have already tried to clear CMOS with the jumper.
