Ive been looking at 3700x and 5700x if i get a stack of boards cheap.
8core/16thread and 65w like the cooler they got in the bundle is rated for.

They are about 100€ for 3700x and 140-160€ for 5700x used here.
that's what I'm running in mine 3700x and 5700x, those cpu are always on top of charts for most compute per watt used :)

Is there any chance this would work?
Samsung 32GB PC4-17000 DDR4-2133MHz Registered ECC CL15 288-Pin

Can get these used and extremely cheap locally

No those will not work, UDIMM only

Will pm them to ask if they can list 10pack on ebay for better shipping.
10x20€ for 10units now gets a bit steep.

Saw they had 10/20/50/100packs with increasing discounts on site.

What do you suggest for a storage server - I would need one pci slot for the 40gb nic, and one for the pci nvme. Is it possible to add a hba or a raid controller somehow on top of that?

What "pci nvme"? There is a x1 M.2 slot for booting without using a SATA port.

Splitting risers are a possibility… but also raises the question of fitting components in the case.
(If this one were not solt out, it would be a solution for a x8 card and two M.2 in the x16 slot.)

If you do need a HBA and a NIC (why 40 GbE? it's a dead end) and one or more x4 NVMe drive, it may be easier to look for a more appropriate motherboard rather than try to shoehorn everyting on this particular MC12-LE0 because it happens to be a good deal right now.

When ive done it for m-atx mobos like this in a standard case meant for atx, ive used the typical ribbon riser from the bifurication card and just mounted cards in the unused slots next to motherboard.

That's why it's such a great deal, though. I am not made of 25/100GbE money.
25 GbE can be less expensive than the CPU you're going to put in this MC12-LE0… ;)
(I have no connection with this seller, and cannot endorse him.)

25gbe nics are cheap, the switches are not as fun prices on yet.
Something like a 40gbe connectx4 probably cost more than 25gbe now.

Ive been buying 25g cards to use as 10g for a while, usualy just 5-10$ more.
For the hp/dell formfactor cards the 25g can even be cheaper than 10g, less demand for those models i guess.

Still rocking ancient 40g switches with a mix of 40g and 4x10g breakouts.
Since they were 100$ and barely using over 50w with 20ish ports in use.

Im putting a 2x25g used as 2x10 and 3.2tb nvme card on my stack of boards.
Some spinners on the onboard satas.

use something like this card and set the x16 slot to x8 x4 x4
My bad for not telling all the details immediately.

40gb because i already have switches with 40gb uplinks, and bought two more (4×40gb and 48x10gb) for 150eur. I also have 40gb nics from before (chelsio t580). In the hp servers I use supercheap 544flr flexlom nics (40gb/10gb)

If anyone knows of a relatively cheap 100gb nic and switch please let me know.

For the nvme, I would need something bigger (6.4tb+) so I won't be able to use m.2 format.

In theory I can connect 6 x 20tb drives to the sata ports and run zfs on truenas..

Just another data point:

My new 5800x was detected and working with BIOS F06, no issues. My RAM is two modules of KSM32ED8/16HD, installed in the A0 slots (the black slots).

I haven't been able to update to F11 through the BMC, though. I might try to fix that later.

I also expected the CPU cooler mounting to be rotated 90 degrees from what it actually is. Now my CPU cooler (NH-D15) is blowing air bottom-up in my chassis, I was expecting to mount it to move air horizontally in the chassis :D

Bought the combo mobo + cooler on their website, with the code PIO2024, it was 75.55€ shipped to France, VAT included.

Now on the hunt for some memory (and possibly a chassis...)
