I think that is your problem here. Usually they are something like A0 - very early, B0 and C0. Best to get C's if you can as they are what release processors are based on.

Ok, i dont get that
I got a later stepping (2) which is one of 2 pre-QS ones. Not really the latest but definitely not very early.

Edit:
Does anyone have a pre 2.0 Bios for a X10DRi-T4+ ? Or an idea where to find old bioses on SM website?
Edit2: Found an old one for BIOS X10DRC-LN4+ - according to this supermicro site it should be a fitting correct one.

these are sceenshots of a Xeon sold as E5-2630L V4 1.7 GHZ ES2
its not exact like the prod. 2630L v4 (1,8GHZ),
the author of HWinfo told me this is an intermediate ES without a official name.
So it's safe to buy? Thanks!

I have a question ... how to configure BIOS settings to use Turbo Boost ??? I mean that my turbo speed need to be 2.5 GHz, but actually is 2.3 GHz ;-(.

Got the 2690 V4 @ 2,4ghz for 515€. Works like a charm, all core boost is 3,0ghz. Could somebody explain that why didn't Intel sell this chip as a 3ghz/(3,2ghz all core turbo on retail 2690 V4)? I mean if it has a higher all core turbo than the stock frequency, why sell it as a underclocked version? I know, that if you have crap cooling and hitting the temp limits, you may run the CPU only at stock frequencies..

Also, I disabled HT because GTA V doesn't seem to support high core count CPU's with hyperthreading..

L0 stepping, is this bad?

So still having issues with my X10DRi-T4+ && ES CPUs :(
I have now tested an 2630Lv4 ES (stepping 0) on the board, same issue, CPU not detected.
I have installed one of the 2695v3's in my other board (X10SRI), working flawlessly.

Both boards have Bios 2.0, don't have the Bios flash key on the T4 (yet).
I guess I better open a new thread for my particular issues.

I figured the GTA V last week
C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C START "GTAVLauncher.exe" /high /affinity FFFFF "C:\Program Files\Grand Theft Auto V\GTAVLauncher.exe"

Every F is 4 cores apparently I can only use 20 core for GTA V. Its a constant 60fps 1080x1920 Ultra everything maxed out with x4 msaa

So what do I write if I have the game on the D: drive (Steam games are there) and do the F's count as physical cores, or virtual cores (Threads?)

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C START "GTAVLauncher.exe" /high /affinity FFFFF
then the path of the game. F counts cores/threads

I have used both, The p.4 is a better bios than the p.5 both will work though. So you will need either a retail x99 Haswell chip or know some one that can lend you one
So i have managed to get the motherboard updated to p.4 bios and also test it on p.5. Did not manage to boot on either of them :-(

The CPU is probably damaged? I will return it to the ebay seller i got it from and planning to buy another one. Could you please tell me what ebay lot will work on x99a raider? Preferably 2683 v4, however any equal or not much more expensive cpu will fit.

Thanks

That's an early engineering sample. If Intel was to sell that chip as a 3Ghz part the TDP would increase substantially. Take for example the E5-2670 and E5-2680. Increasing the clock speed by 100mhz meant a 15W TDP increase approximately. Besides usually the E5-W parts such as the E5-2687W have the highest clock speed as they are meant for workstations (hence W) instead of servers due to their TDP and cooling required.

Intel Xeon E5 v4 Broadwell Buyers Guide (Parallel Performance)
Well the retail version has 3,2ghz allcore.. if the CPU boosts really that high during all core loads, isn't the TDP already being exceeded?
And btw compare the GFLOPS on the 2687W V4 (12 core) and 2690 V4 (14 core), the GFLOPS scale well. In the end, both of the CPU's have the same all core turbo, but the TDP is different? Shouldn't the 2690 V4 have higher TDP, because of the all core turbo being at the same clockspeeds as the 2687W V4 and having 2 more cores. Intel advertises 2690 V4's TDP being 135W and 2687W V4's 160W. I can't really believe that 2690 V4 has a lower TDP despite haveing 2 more cores and the same all core turbo freq.

Engineering samples are usually clocked lower intentionally especially when they are early engineering samples. Only pre-QS and QS have identical turbo boost and clock speeds as a production processor. Using your comparison I compared with Intel's ark utility. Here is the comparison:

ARK | Compare Intel® Products

There is a 400mhz base frequency difference. That accounts for 25W TDP difference even though it has less cores. If that E5-2690 V4 had the base same clock frequency it's TDP would also be clocked higher.

It should have worked, Its possible that the flashing process was a dud. I could sell you mines I have 2
E5 2683 v4 they both work they came off of a HP dual socket motherboard. How ever you will still be in the same situation if the motherboard bios wasn't flashed properly. You have to without a shadow of a doubt, have seen the motherboard boot up after a bios flash otherwise your taking a shot in the dark.

price. Just like the reason you use ES instead of retail.

I have been running ESXi without ECC for years and never noticed any issue because of it. As far as I can tell, at least with E5 2600 v3 single socket non-ECC UDIMM works, it just not advertised by Intel.
Hi do you have any idea if the E5 v4 xeon will work with ECC UDIMM as well ?

I have offer about 2x E5-2683V3 cpus for 700Euros. Seller told me, that cpus are final version, no es sample,
but when I got cinebench R15 screenshots form both cpus, result is 1656 and 1681 points, result looks like ES sample...
But name from Cinebench R15 is Intel Xeon CPU E5-2683V3, so it looks like original cpus...
Original E5-2683V3 should have 1850 points.

Do you have experience with LRDIMMS?
I got Crucial 128GB Kit (4x32GB) 2133MHz DDR4 CL15 DR x4 ECC Registered LRDIMM....
I plan to buy ASUS Z10PE-D16 WS. Or Supermicro?

I asked seller about HWInfo64, so I will see. Can you recommend me some good seller of Xeon E5 cpus on ebay? Worldwide or from Europe...

Please don't forget you need 4 RAM modules for each CPU to get 100% performance.
2 RAM modules per CPU will work too, but performance will be 50% only.

HAHA that ERR_SYS_THREAD post is by me :)

If you read more into that I did post a fix, it has nothing to do with hyper-threading. GTA V is not NUMA aware so it will crash.

Two posts down I posted.

Succes !

Well I have some good news.
My system has 2x E5-2698 v3 processors, 32 cores / 64 threads.

No matter what I did I would receive that ERR_SYS_THREAD.
Even if I disabled 1 CPU.

Here is my fixed that worked for me.

I fire up the game with the Steam Launcher.
It will error out with ERR_SYS_THREAD

I then bring up the task manager and select GTA V Launcher.
Right click and drop down to Affinity.
I deselect all cores.
Now I enable CPU 0 (Node0) through CPU 0 (Node 8)
I cannot use any more than that as I will get that error.

The I hit retry on the GTA V Launcher and the game will work.

It seems GTA V is not NUMA aware and limited by the number of threads it can use.
Users with different CPUs might have to set Affinity slightly different than what I did,
I somehow do not think they will ever do a patch for this because I am such a rare user, but who knows.
