Are those benchmarks between xeons and epycs with the current generation? AMD now does AVX-512 fyi. All of the testing I've seen shows that it's generally easier to list the few areas where a 128 core xeon 6980P 2P manages to beat the 64 core 9655 2P let alone the 128 core 9755 2P setup... The Xeon max stuff is cool for a variety of reasons though.

AMX from Intel has some advantages, again simply maturity and adoption, back when Intel was outselling AMD 9:1 (now 2:1), I’m sure things will catch up but Intel CPUs just have some advantages, as I said, “my tests” are specific to things I do not in general, some specific things were written to take advantage of intel’s vs amd.

it’s like anything though, I like car analogies because they’re simple, I always argue with mustang owners over Porsche, they can beat me on a short straight line unmodified from factory, but on a track, I may not win for top speed but ill win based on track time

Yes. They do run AVX512, just not as well as Xeons.

it all comes down to your workloads , but for AI specifically, Xeons hold the crown.

That depends heavily on which mustang your are talking about...

I’ve owned a bunch, Shelby cobras etc, but I switched to first a Lamborghini which is fun but the roads where I am suck, noticed a lot of friends with super cars eventually go Porsche so I ordered a new 2025 4 GTS and haven’t touched my cobra once since, also ordered a 2025 turbo s, which I’m told will be the pinnacle (also was offered a choice of a slot for a GT2RS, 3 or an s/t and I’m between the 2 and s/t).

anyways I can say I lap far better on a track with my Porsche, but it’s an over engineered and forgiving piece of machinery

that’s been my results and other colleagues, offloading cpu/ram and gpus, the intels were just always snappier, vsan with Mellanox (nvidia) Nics always just worked and worked well on intel platforms etc

I've recently built a new computer with the Gigabyte MS03-CE0. This is my first build using a server motherboard, so I'm inexperienced in that regard. The processor I've used is a Q30G (48-core EMR). From my understanding, I need a modded BIOS to use EMR processors with that motherboard, correct? From reading the thread, @RolloZ170 is the person to ask about this?

So far, the computer isn't booting; I'm getting lights turning on and fans spinning, but no POST screen, and no sounds from the onboard buzzer. I assume it's because the CPU is incompatible with the stock BIOS. If I get the modded BIOS, what's the process for flashing it? Just flip the BIOS Recovery jumper, and put the file on a USB stick?

I'd appreciate any help!

Out of curiosity, does the long boot time for the C741 Gigabyte boards on the stock BIOS occur on SPR ES processors too, or is it only on EMR ES that this occurs?

it is not with gigabyte only. and with dual socket config you have no POST, not even after 6 minutes.

I am currently running a Q19U ( W7-3455 ) in a W790 Sage board. I have 512gb of v-color ram but want to get up to 1TB. The 128gb sticks are ridiculously priced, so I am looking to move to the X13SWA and simply get another 8 sticks of 64. Does anyone know if I will run into problems with that board? Past conversations mention pain with the D0 steppings, but it looks like the Q19U has E3 steppings..

depends on your budget. next after 5411N is the 6430 QS at ebay. there where recently some 8461v QS,
8470 QS for 300€ and so on(you can disable cores if too much for you)
keep your eyes open.
edit: the 6430 QS is 32 core but 4 time XCC model, they have higher IDLE power consumption than the MCC monolythic parts.
maybe you try the Q2Y7, i can help with the BIOS, but no guarantees.

keep your eyes open.
