Yeah that makes sense. And how did you know the server I was referencing was in my living room ;)

I need relatively high fan (~4000RPM 80mm fans) speeds to cool my 7V73x to just 60C at idle with preheated 40C air! Luckily the P8 Max fans are not very loud at that speed.

Crazy idea - for the dual CPU case - have the heatsink be exhausting opposite directions, so one exhausts forward and one backward?

you need airflow over motherboard. server mobo are not like WS boards with Heatsinks on every chip, they need continous airflow.
somefriends tried 2x 8251C in Dell T7920 - no way without water.

That's a good point, wasn't thinking of the VRMs and NICs and such.

Depends on the board, but in quiet a few cases if you won't put fans, VRM and/or NIC would overheat quickly. I usually put small 40mm fans in a desktop case near those places and that so far was enough.

correct. BIOS 1.0 X12DPL is officialy available for download (STDsp)
BIOS 1.0 for X12SPL,X12SPM not (TESsp)
STD = Standard BIOS
TES = Test/ES BIOS
sp = signed production key/cert
sd = signed debug key/cert <<-- can't used without also having the debug key/cert.
e.g. STDsp,TESsp is accepted by RoT, TESsd not.

Yeah, though on previous page there were E5 ESs (in a sense of having production stepping, but at the same time not displaying product string) on screenshots for server Xeons, so I hoped maybe similar thing happened with Xeon-W this time. But I guess - no...

ES have "0000" if they have no matching production SKU.
they can be very close but lack functionality or have more. intel makes that before the list of final SKUs is out.
e.g. the Q30G is sold as 8558, but that is completely wrong.
Q30G is gold classified. i have seen the confidential DCL of it. there is just no 48 core gold left in the final SKU list.

Taking into account that retail Xeon-W have most of accelerators fused out, that makes ES "0000" but prod stepping even more intriguing :)

Yeah, that I understand. And that makes Q2SR better than Xeon Platinum 8592+ in that sense as it have more QAT/IAA devices (at least as far as I understand)

Q2SR EMR A0 on ASRock Rack SPC741D8UD-2T/X550
( need same tweak than Gigabyte, but (socketed)BIOS chip must be flashed by SPI programmer )
edit: with latest BMC Firmware, mod.BIOS can be updated in BMCWebGUI, but hold SPI flasher in place.
