I flashed a Tyan S7066 systemboard to use Ivy Bridge E5.

Put in a single E5-2696 v2 CPU , booted up and running memtest86.

Looks like Tyan S7066 is good.

After Tyan S7066, I have some other Intel S2600JF and S2600WP boards to try.

Today temperate is 108 degree outside , the workbench is in my Crypto mining room. It is like 120 degree inside.
Surprisingly, miner E5 v3 CPU are only at 50- 70 degree.
Not running any space heater E5 v1 today or tomorrow.

I'll resume after 8pm when temperate is cooler.

I just got off te phone with super micro tech support and they flat out said they don't support OEM CPU.

Anyone running these on SM boards? I have an X9-DAE.

I only have 1 working cpu , it works with X9DRL-EF board.

I have a working SM X9DAX system , don't really want to tear it apart to test the CPU.
If you are seriously buying the CPU. I could test it out this weekend.

Remember , I only have 1 CPU , won't be able to test DUAL CPU mode.

I sent my pair back as I have no way to test them and don't really want to get another dual cpu MB. but this is good information but obviously very disappointing for s2600 owners

so really, now what would be the lowest cost options (any cheap dual v2 or v3?) for us to beat the 1950x? I said dual 2696 v2 but given this compatibility issue, there is not much options left ....

i'll be sure to remember that. SM support does not officially support OEM cpus.

I think the E5-2680V2 is a great alternative if you can get it around $180-200.

Glad to hear that it work on Supermicro! Though I'm worried about that bad cpu. The seller have no feedback from the 2696 buyers yet either.

maybe, but the problem is that dual 2680 v2 won't beat one 1950x. the only real affordable solution for beating one 1950x is dual 2696 v2. if you have to go into v3 MB and DDR4 then your justification for not getting 1950x to start out with is even less compelling. there's no other more cost effective v2 cpu at this point for multithread than 2696 v2

I am building a dual 2686 v3 system right now. it will surely beat a stock 1950x but the cost is like about the same.... ;(

so what would be the cheapest dual cpu 2011 MB that would work with 2696 v2 at this time? some supermicron or tyan or asus? marsh or anyone else can you guys make a suggestion? thanks.

I like this 2667 V2. Good single thread performance and very close to to some of the slower 10 and 12 core chips.

It gets me equivalent threadripper performance on single thread and slightly higher on multi thread (at least based on passmark).

What do you all use to compare CPU performance?

I do believe that the 2696 will work with a SM board Regardless of what support said.

I like the E5-2667 v2 I currently have, it keeps pace with a lot of newer chips.
I use, CPUz, geekbench, and cinebench usually to compare.

e5*2696 v2 would be tying 1950x or beating it very slightly:

I have to say it has become more and more apparent that any attempt to build a multicore rig to beat 1950x for significantly cheaper is getting to be less successful... If anytime that you have to move to 2011 v3 to beat 1950x, your argument for not getting 1950x itself gets much less compelling.. and that's what we are seeing...

By moving to 2011 v3, you would be able to build a set up that will definitively beat 1950x by a good margin but it will not cost you almost the same or the same as 1950x

we haven't even talked about an overclocked 1950x here....1950x definitely has a huge impact

Yea the 2667's are sweet to have for a desktop, I really like my dual 2667 V3 pc.

Scooped up 2 x ES 2690 v3 12-core 2.6 @ 100 each. Looking for a asus Z10PA-D8 for around 250 and I presume it can all turbo 24 cores to 3.5ghz.

I don't think it has to be expensive, you just have to look around for deals.
