Hi,
I’m looking for a CPU good enough to handle 2-4 simultaneously 1080p h265 transcoding and at least 1 4K. Does an Epyc 7281 work for this job? Is a Xeon e5-2640 v4 better?
Hi,
I'm interested in getting a Tyan S8026GM2NRE motherboard but I'd prefer to put it in a 3rd-party case because 2U tends to have too many cooling issues in my environment (would like a big full-atx case to put it in) but it has PCI risers instead of PCI slots
Has anyone heard of a 3rd-party...
Hi All
Has anyone here got any tips on where to purchase Epyc motherboards in the UK
Currently I can only really see the GIGABYTE MZ31-AR0 available from Insight UK - but I'm not a huge fan of its layout, nowhere seems to be stocking any of the Supermicro H11SSL-* boards, CPUs seem to be easy...
Finally managed to do some testing with AMD EPYC 7401P on CentOS 7.4 with both default 3.10 Linux Kernel and 4.15 Linux Kernel. But I ran into some cpu soft lockups during UnixBench test and was wondering if anyone else have run into these before Benchmarks - Packet.net bare metal cloud provider...
Hi Guys,
I just saw the review on the AMD EPYC 7351P CPU but it did not really go into GPU usage so I thought I would do a post in here to get some feedback and or advice on this.
We are looking to build a 7 GPU rack using the EPCY so we can take advantage of the 128 PCIE lanes, basically...
Hello,
I would like to build a Monero mining computer with a great hash rate between $5-$15K as the budget or effectively produce a hash rate of above 3500 h/s
I've been looking into using a build with a EPYC cpu. Likewise, I have also been considering buying 10-20 GPU's and combining them...
tl;dr: How to get AMD core performance boost on linux? Or how to read CPU frequency correctly?
My setup consists of two AMD Epyc 7301 (2.2GHz Base, 2.7GHz boost) on a Supermicro H11DSi.
I just installed Opensuse Tumbleweed which comes with Kernel version 4.14.2-1-default.
uname -a

My plans on trying AMDs new Epyc processors for my new workstation are in their final stage. But a few questions remain.
1) Memory compatibility - frequency
Right now I can't really afford buying 16x16GB DDR4-2666 memory. But I have enough 16GB DDR4-2133 reg ECC waiting to be put to use. I know...
Not great but not bad by any means:
351W Decent idle and maximum views of the system today. That is a fairly bare config with 2x SATA SSDs and only using Broadcom networking. No 24x U.2 NVMe drives or NICs installed.
I was originally told that the production date for the EPYC 7251 was going to start on August 31, 2017. At the same time, we had a retail marked AMD EPYC 7251 show up today. The availability should be getting much better on the $500 ish street price 8 core/ 16 thread lowest cost EPYC part.
I know we have a lot of folks looking for the AMD EPYC 7281 chips.
They are selling for around $730 with 16 core, 32 threads 2.1GHz base 2.7GHz turbo.
They should be more widely available in the next week or so. We just got one in the lab today:
Systems are still the constraint since you...
