Yes I need an unlock or script, but for 1 drive to buy a whole software is not possible! If you offer the script - put it here.
That person, E123, is NOT selling/licensing the software. He's offering a service, remotely, and I believe, charging reasonably, on a per drive basis. Seems to me like a very clever/competent person, who has figured out a bypass for (some/most?) OEM "firmware locks", and the chosen "delivery method" is an ideal way to charge on a "value received" basis.

Do anyone has firmware for HUS724040ALE64DB or HUS724040ALE640 which should be the generic for NETAPP X477_HMKPX04TA07 NA00? MJAOA3B0

I created a dedicated thread for HGST HUH728080ALE601 He8 SATA drives firmware, there is a download link to Hugo also, since they are all over the Internet, but I'm posting also here. Thank you for sharing the latest firmware.

Could anyone explain how to select the mode (-m) in sg_write_buffer? I've got some HUH728080AL4200 and HUH728080AL5205 disks that came with 907 firmware, and thinking about updating them to the latest versions posted on hddguru, which seem to be AD05 and DD05.

This should work, right?
# sg_write_buffer -vvvvv -m x --in A4GNDD05.bin /dev/sg1

But which mode to use? I've tried googling it but couldn't find any guides. What's the difference between modes 4 (download microcode and activate) and 5 (download microcode, save and activate)? Does -m 4 allow to "test" a new firmware without actually "saving" it so that after a reboot the disk would revert back to the previous firmware it had before? And -m 5 flashes the new firmware "permanently"? And what's up with those "offsets" - modes 6 and 7? This is really confusing. :D

Thanks, sg_write_buffer worked for updating HUH728080AL5205 disks. I'll check out HUGO next time, when I'll be updating the batch of AL4200 disks.

By the way, I've got a HUH721008AL5205 disk that came with D384 firmware. I wonder whether there's newer firmware for this model available anywhere?

I just got some 10TB Ultrastar He10 HUH721010ALE604 with FW LHACW38A.

I found LHGNW9U0.zip (uploaded? March 21, 2023) on hddguru.com tagged with my drive model. Would this be the proper way to determine if the firmware is appropriate for my drive? The drive has 5 years of power on. Are there any other sites where I could find newer firmware?

From comparing the drive's current firmware it seems to be quite old. Is the sg_write_buffer command shown in this command sufficient in updating the firmware as long as I reference the drive through the sg name and not sd?

Thanks!

EDIT: Nevermind. I just went through this and the "latest" firmware thread and my FW is OEM "AC." The OEM is maybe Apple? When I entered the serial number into WD's website it had this description

LHA Drive ASM 10.0TB, 512e, SATA P3_PWDIS_Support, APPLE iCloud, Crypto Disabled

If you try to download generic fw to apple drive just nothing happens, only error. But maybe drive would accept generic fw

The hard drive will normally either accept the firmware update or reject it with an error. However, I cannot rule out the possibility that there are hard drives that become unusable due to a wrong update. Anyway, it's not the rule.
