So, if you have Hitachi drives connected to Adaptec raid controller (in my case this is Adaptec 52445) you can update Hitachi's FW using Adaptec Storage Manager. I've successfully updated all my three 3TB 7K3000 drives to 800 from 5C0 version.
Which packet size did you use in the firmware update wizard?

What's the general consensus on the best firmware for the 5K3000?, I have stacks of them but all different firmware revisions, I really should put them all in line.

Also, not sure if you're all aware but the Touro DX3 contains these drives, I have been buying them and ripping the guts out since the 5K3000 became unavailable through the channel.

800 works fine for me, but there are some previous posts with A10 proved to be as good. You could try A10 and if you don't like it, you can always downgrade to 800.

I'll go with what's tried and tested, so 800 I think, one of my drives shipped with A10 the others are all random.

*EDIT* Another 2TB 5K3000 just arrived in the post, file name seems to be different again for A10 this one has come with, will dump it if I can.

Hello guys!

Thank you for all infromation in this topic of forum. I'm impressed of all you.
I read all 20 pages and downloaded the 800 fw for Hitachi 7k3000 2TB and went home to upgrade my HDD's from 580 and 5C0 to 800.
But, with ur help, while I read all info here, I wrote many letters to Hitachi Support, again and again, on my request.
And, with blessing of God, I have got from them the A10 fw.

Grats to us!

And there is link to A10 fw for 2TB Hitachi 7k3000:
https://apps.tourocloudbackup.com/d/index.php?226FK89J

Good luck and ask, if what! =)))

I have upgraded two different model drives with firmware I have received from here and now to a 3rd model thanks to the persistence of Crazy. I am sure many of us would have given up on the first or second attempt @ getting assistance from Hitachi. I know I did. So thank you everyone for your efforts in this thread.

Thanks, man ! I really appreciate your post ! I'll go ahead and flash A10 on a 2TB 7K3000 drive and test it thoroughly before doing the same on the rest of them (currently on FW 800).
BTW, did you notice any performance improvements on A10 vs 580/5C0/800 ?

Any chance to obtain the A10 for the 3TB 7K3000 drive ? I know, I know, I'm asking too much...
PS: If your drive ever develops Ultra DMA CRC errors, you can flash back to 5C0 and then flash to 800 or A10. Flashing back to 5C0 resets the CRC error counter to 0 in SMART.

Thanks, for advice with Smart, I'll test. But now I'm happy with A10 fw, and don't see any bugs.. )

About 3TB 7k3000: Write to me ur P/N and serials, I'll try to contact with support.

In order to flash to A10, did you use the Windows flasher (HiTest) included in A10, or the DOS flasher found in the 800 firmware package ?
I've sent you a Private Message, please check.
Many thanks !

Yep, I used the HiTest under Windows XP.
I have AHCI mode and Windows 8, but for this.. I got old HDD Seagate 80GB :D , installed windows xp and, sure, in bios from AHCI mode was choosed IDE, for better chance to detect HDD's by oldschool system =)
Every flash was ~15 seconds.. )

I've just flashed a couple of 7K3000 2TB drives to firmware A10 using the DOS flasher from the 800 firmware package. Everything worked smoothly, the drives are working great. The only difference I see: the write access times have improved slightly from 7.1 ms to 6.5 ms.

OK, so I've also flashed a couple of 7K3000 3TB drives to A10. Same result: everything is good, the write access are a bit improved, similarly to the 2 TB drives.

When did Hitachi drives stop being called "Hitachi" and start being called "Toshiba"?

Just for kicks, I looked to see if it's still possible to buy the 5400 RPM 3 TB Hitachi drives. I came across this, $129 from B&H Photo Video. If the picture/description are accurate, that's retail packaging and 3-year warranty.

I'm thinking about snagging one of these up, but I assume the warranty starts at the manufacture date, right? So if I understand correctly, these drives are oldish stock, so the warranty wouldn't be three years from now, but three years from... some time in the past. Right?

Warranty start - when the devices are bought by End-User.

How does the manufacturer know that though? Does the retailer have to report back when a unit is sold?
Authorized resellers actually do report it. That's why when you buy from Frys or MicroCenter they scan the serial number at checkout. Most on-line retailers do this too (amazon, the egg, etc).

Or you can just simply register your product on the manufacturer's site and give them a proof of purchase with the corresponding date. The warranty will start from that particular date. I did this for a WD drive when I RMA'd... Don't know about Hitachi.
