Technically that might be the M2... which was the official version that ran the v5's i guess after a quick search (FUJITSU PRIMERGY TX1320 M2 Tower Server)
Looking at the specs - its the same machine - just branded differently - its the same chipset they use, same motherboard D3337 - so my guess is it is the same machine - possibly just a slightly different BIOS - or no difference at all - just the branding because intel made the V6, and someone decided that they should make a M3 that supported that.

yes, but if they lock cpu's in bios that still might be an issue. Not sure how present the M2 is on their page, i.e. if it has different bios releases than the M3 ... that might be an indicator to see if there are differences

Just as a hint how these are traded (EDIT: w/luck) w/hardware included on eBay ... ok 16GB is not that brilliant but it came with a valid WS2016 license. Auction just finished now.

Indeed - but that is too expensive in my opinion - you could buy the same system without SSDs/License cheaper if you just picked up the parts - and even if you had to pay shipping 3 times.

Then bring it on ....

EUR 29.00 >> Barebone stripped ... no shipping
EUR 85.00 >> E3 1230 E6 (cheapest I can find on eBay EU) ... no shipping
EUR 87.00 >> 16GB ECC UDIMM 2400 (cheapest I can find on eBay EU) ... no shipping
EUR 40.00 >> 4x Caddies (considering 10EUR each findings) ... no shipping
-------------------
EUR 241.00 SUM ... in my opinion, just considering eBay Europe, this is a very low-balling calculation without starting the working eBay-Search-Apps.

450W psu also means redundant PSUs... now whether thats worth the extra...
I know and absolutely correct. Normal is 250W PSU 'only'.

Also V6 xeons are still relatively expensive, I can't find one with HT for less than 80€.
Maybe TX1320 M2 version is better deal just because you can get 1270 V5 for 57€ (from same seller who has dirt cheap M3).

Not to mention 2 400G drives (which means SSDs since i dont think hdds came in that size) and the license...
I would say that covers the difference easily with the PSU

Now whether you need all these parts or they just add cost (receycling) or work (resale) is a different matter;)

Thanks to this thread I found one M3 locally and snatched it for 85€ shipped. Pentium G4560, 16GB(probably non ECC), 4 caddies, 2x480g SM863a, raid or HBA (not sure which one) and standard PSU. Good deal but I'll be swapping for Xeon and possibly ram.
This looks like standard config because seller didn't have much knowledge about it and was selling it as standard computer. So two 400g drives could be SM863a maybe?
If someone want to borrow me V5 for test, I'll gladly do it.

I didn't mean to brag by any chance. Just to let you know that maybe you can find better deal.
I was ready to buy two-three barebone ones you mentioned, but again, shipping price is same price as server and I'm not ok with that. Not to mention CPU price.

Since we are more discussing the box here than my WTT/WTB buy request - @Patrick can you move this to Chassis or whatever subsection is most appropriate? I'll edit title and first post then accordingly (keeping original content intact for consistency).

With that out of the way to tidbits that might interest future owners

1. One (of the two i touched) of the boxes will not upgrade iRMC to the latest version at all. I tried everything (Bios update o/c, flashing via file, tftp, update medium, step by step through all the versions etc), its stuck at a certain level.
It flashes just fine but then fw status is invalid

I spent like half a day on this already, so I will discuss this with the seller next and expect to get a replacement

2. More dire and quite weird - I have issues with running multiple NVMe drives via PCIe 2 U2 adapters... I have done a lot of combination testing but I can't get two of those to work. The board gets stuck at "Press F2 for Bios or F12 for Boot menu" in that case. Multiple NVMe drives work fine if used with an ReTimer card or in combination with a non U2 nvme (-> m2/pcie) - this works up to 3 nvme total (as expected), and just fyi the board booted fine from an m2 in a Pcie adapter too:)
O/c this puts a dent in my plans to run with 2 U2 adapters :/

Sigh, I am not going to spend €130 for a €30 box (twice, to get two more 2E4T's), will be moving from 5800x U2 to 900p PCIe then (and bear the whining of vmware re unsupported devices - hopefully working fine...)

Fresh installation of Fujitsu custom 7U3, one Intel P4610, one 900p, one S3700, Mellanox CX3, E3-1245v6, 4x16G mem -> 31W idle in ESXi boot screen

My guess is that it does not like the retimer - I have never trusted retimers and also not bifurcation cards - for me a switch card is the only "real" solution - even though it adds a tiny latency because of the switching chip - but at least it should be supported everywhere.

But the retimer is fine
agree. i have both retimer and redriver cards - tested both of them on Supermicro X10, X11, H12 boards. retimer cards works in all my tests, while redriver card sometimes won't fully work.

I might have found a reseller that is willing to sell me the whole package:
Server
1220 v6
2x8GB ECC

For around 205 EUR, and with 25 EUR shipping for 5 units total - I am very tempted if thats where the price ends up - still a bit higher than I wanted to pay in reality since this is just for fun/test - but we have to keep the wheels turning in europe, so we have to spend money right :-D

P.S. 0 Caddies, since they want 43 EUR per caddy :-D - I hope I get get 10 caddies for less than 100 EUR on ebay.
