Hi, I currently have a e5 2667 v3. im loooking to overclock but thought it would best to know some sweetspot overclock numbers that i can use for a trial. I am currently running the x99 taichi. Also new to overclocking. Any advice or direction would be great.

How far can you take the e5 2667 v3? would be great to see any overclock results you may have. Thanks.

Can someone recommend me a replacement for my two 2683 V3's?

I'm torn between the 2697 V3 and or 2690 V4. What to pick?

I'd like to get away from the low base / turbo boost, and see some gain in ghz.

Neither. If you want the highest clocked Xeons with a high base speed then you could consider the E5-2667 V3, E5-2687W V3, E5-2667 V4, E5-2687W V4, E5-2689 V4.

If you want to choose only from those two choices then I'd go for the 2690 V4 due to the higher base speed and since it has 3.5Ghz 1/2 boost versus 3.6Ghz of 2697 V3 1/2.
Okay I didn't know the 2689 V4, the rest has either to low a core-count or to high a tpd. Guess the best candidate is probably the V4 2690 then.

Has any tried the xeon turbo hack over at anandtech? It seems like a great way to add ekstra value to my issue.

V2's are already being offloaded. The only reason we saw a big rush (and the resulting increase in price on X79 motherboards) was that Youtubers were posting about the deal causing prices to rise on motherboards and demand to spike (especially for X79 motherboards). In the current E5-2670 price tracking thread in the great deals subforum the E5-2670 V2 is already selling for almost October 2015 E5-2670 prices. Give it months and prices will come down and supply will increase.



Pads seem to be worn. However do they make contact with the LGA pins? If they do it could be a faulty IMC. If they don't or make partial contact then it's an issue with the pads. Either way I wouldn't accept a processor with pad damage/abrasion/wear-tear.
Outside of 60 days IAW their policy so no return/replacement available IAW their policy, but then, shit happens.

ok I see hwtrade-e has some cheap E5-2670V2 chips. But still not at $75/ea which I paid for my two V1s.
Not exactly like the V1 situation where several vendors from several continents were selling for dirt cheap all at once.

Do you expect this to happen closer to december/next year and sellers are just waiting for demand to go up?
I know it took about 4 months from E5-2670v1s entered the market (when Patrick made the price watch thread) before pricing got down to where I couldn't stop myself buying it even if motherboards were pricey.
I have no experience with these sorts of things. Usually HW have to become really old before prices start to drop noticeably. The longevity of these Xeons are just impressive. Just look at ES pricing even.

I found a list that shows the e5 2667 v3 QEYA at 2.9 base and 3.5 on all turbos. Has anyone found the same figures? The tests I run the max it goes to was 3.1.

2667 V3 production processors have the following turbo bins:

2/2/2/2/2/2/4/4

Note how the production processor will turbo at 3.Ghz on 1-2 cores. ES2 doesn't. As the QEYA is a ES2 processor it would turbo at a maximum of 3.2Ghz. Please see below:

Thanks. Dont know why the list showed 3.5 max turbo. A little confused when u say " please see below." dont know if it pertained to my inquiry. The image looks like its a diff processor.

So, the production processor turbos less that the ES2.

Sorry I was responding to another comment as well and forgot to close the bracket. Yes the ES2 has different and lower turbo bins and clock speeds.

just to clarify. ES2 has lower turbo bins but higher clock speeds than the production processor?

About the pin damage - one of my two V4 arrived with pretty big scratch, seller HWTrade.
I used is as secondary CPU i n Z10PE-D8.
For this reason, i had to buy full load of RAM (8 sticks) and spent week with testing, to be sure.
I found nothing wrong with it, all was stable, but the seller was willing to replace it, if needed - but mentioned the CPUs are tested, so i should use it.
I think i even tried my GPU in all slots and tried CPUZ 16x PCIE lane test.
Maybe someone with V4 pinout can tell me which pins are damaged?
They either work anyway or affect something i do not use (yet).
Edit: i have the dual machine built for about 8 months.

That's a really bad scratch. It covers so many contact pads. So it could be in Judgie's case possibly a defective IMC. I didn't have a chance to look at the pin outs but if contact isn't being made fully on pins responsible for the IMC it may also cause an issue. Either way if I was in Judgie's position I would go about getting it refunded or exchanged.
Unfortunately as stated above, I have contacted them and they will not exchange (outside of their 60 day refund/replacement period).

Given Jointer's experience i'd probably be leaning towards a defective IMC.

I bought a pair of those Xeon E5-2630 v4 on Ebay and I got a QHVK and a SR2R7. Each one worked perfect on my board (AsRock EP2C612D16C-4L) but not together - I got an error 79 during "System Initialization". Can't they be combined?
Please help, I am stuck :-(

pls see/upload CPU-z screenshot of each cpu.
the SR2R7 is possibly a remarked QK3G and a different ES than QHVK,
results in a CPU-Mismatch.

pins are from D6 up, some C row. its DDR4 channel D pins and some VCCD_23 signal.
If all is stable, there will be no further issues with it, but its bad to resell a scratched cpu ;)

I bought a refurbished R7910 before realizing QS CPUs probably will not work in a dell - - do you think the QS E5-2950L v4 will make it past POST?

It has M0 stepping... and Dell poweredge should POST on CPU with M0 stepping...
The only reason it wont work is, Dell dont want run QS. technicaly a QS is same than prod.unit.

It is strange this seller claim that QS E5-2689 v4 (QK7Z) works in Dell Poweredge and he had it tested too. they got 99.6% feedback - seem legit and reputable seller.

Actually what is the difference between remarked QS and regular QS Xeon that has the same stepping as retail's? Is remarked QS simply has its IHS replaced?

The processor is no other just because you write something else.
they wanted to sell QS as prod.units(illegal action)
the ES bit is set on QS thats all. remarking dont need replace of IHS(AFAIK)
QS usualy have good silicon, because they are made for quality testing before production starts.

PLEASE HELP! Confused about E5-2686 V3 eBay auctions and which is the best to buy. I don't know about revisions and am a newbie so don't know if its a remarked processor/fake. Is R2 or M0 revision better? Is QGN8 or QG7V better? Thank you in advance.

Good thing i have no plans reselling it. :)
So that is bottom right corner of the pin map posted earlier?
It seems to me more like VSS/PEG_TX-RX area, but some of the pins seems to be duplicated on the chip.
I did not know how to identify which corner is which and if the map is for socket or CPU or even a V4 map...
I guess it is fine, since it is running for 8+ months without any major issues and with all RAM slots populated. I had some stability issues, but that i count to the GPUs with overclocking, Windows and weak power supply, considering the machine is used for mining lately. ;)
