Hello,

I have stumbled on a nice seller on ebay - supposedly goverment overstock. Looking for some cheap 2011 boards I have found a whole system for cheaper :)

Dell Precision T3600 - 158 US !! - 5 pcs - Ready to go, 4C Xeon, 8G RAM, HDD - Upgrade to E5-2670 and 128G RAM (4*32) is possible Dell Precision T3600 E5-1603 2.8ghz 8GB DVDRW 500GB Velociraptor HD | eBay

Dell Compellent SC200 - 140 US !! - 10 pcs - WITH 2X CONTROLLERs AND 2X PSUs Dell Compellent SC200 Storage Server with 2x 700w PS 2x Controllers NO HD 12-bay 658759175656 | eBay

Look at this seller, also insane deals on R710/720 PowerEdge machines!

PS: The SC200s look very very tempting - as it works with SATA and other SAS HBAs - basically super cheap enclosure, by EU pricing standard. I might be able to arrange group cheapo sea shipping to EU (CZ, Prague) possibly without any extra import fees if more people would be interested - also seller has listing for 20 pcs, 85 USD - good discount possibly. The enclosure should be slightly less than 10kg/piece - EU reshipping about 35 EUR.

This looks quite interesting but I'm struggling to find any of their other sales (for some reason their "Items for sale" list is showing as empty for me). Do you have a direct-link to any of the R710/R720's?

That Dell R710 linked is an okay price. I have one here for less and it with a H700 controller, BBU, extra 1GbE dual port card and better procs.

If the SC200 does only require a proper SAS controller card, I'll be very interested in picking one up.

Correct. Check sled prices, they might be cheap or bad. If your also buying drives, you might be able to find ones with matching sleds for cheap than drive + separate sled purchase.

The SC200 chassis are just Xyratex rebranded chassis... HPE, NetApp, EMC, ect all use them with different colored stickers on them.

T3600 only v1 xeons 4 ddr3 ram slots
T3610 v1 or v2 xeons 8 ddr3 ram slots
Both are very limited for internal drive space
And takes slim optical

I have 2x T3610 and one T3600 at home for family use general workstations/gaming machines

Hello,
I saw reddit link but have to ask is it possible to buy from IT shop couple of SATA 3-4-6 TB 3.5"and put in sc200 will it work?
Not required special disk with firmware to able to detect and use hard drive by SC200 enclosure?
What do you think?

thanks

The SC200 is a dumb shelf, it doesn't care. Your head unit is what may or may not have firmware or drive model restrictions if your using an actual commercial SAN/NAS units.
