That is a pretty funny comment because anyone installing a rack of regular Front-of-Rack to Rear-of-Rack (cold isle to hot isle) servers will look at F-to-R as a data center standard for edge infrastructure. For example:
You guys have weird datacenters. In all datacenters I've been, the switches were mounted on the backside. In the picture you're showing there's a huge open gap between the switches, making it unsuitable for cold-aisle hot-aisle operation

we have 0 gaps between switches, and run R mount with R airflow, both on "everything cooled" DC and hot/cold isle.

Switches are deep enough not to need trays usually, some arista needs them "needs".

damn I hate the people running reverse mount, but F flow switches pulling hot air into cold isle, its a huuuuuge problem.

Yeah that's dumb. Don't do that in hot/cold aisle topologies...

That particular data center didn't have cold or hot isle containment and sealing every gap was not standard practice. However, ensuring front-to-rear airflow was enforced and luckily most of our access switches exhausted through the switchports. Interestingly, the Juniper and Cisco switches were the models that most often shipped with what I called a non-data center SKUs and exhausted out the PSU end. The Celestica switches in the image were all correct for data center edge installations.

Can the fans in this Arista switch be physically turned around to blow out the back?

ohh you mean with screwdriver and just popping them out? hmm interesting, never htought about it, but yes then you can probably do it , sorry about that!


arista has a model where you can flip it without tools hence my comment

LOL, I would love to see a pic of that! I have an ICX 7250-24P and 48P, both with modded fans, and they're pretty quiet, but taming something this large seems like a challenge. so on the fence right now...

It's not really that loud. I was surprised at how quiet it was. I was expecting it to be much louder.

I pulled one of the fans out and it does look they can be reversed quite easily.

The power supplies are directional and have fans too, if you flip the fan units around, you'll have to flip the fan direction inside the PSUs as well, or it will just circulate its own hot air in a big circle

In the past two weeks, I've fan-modded a few of these switches. The actual fans themselves are quiet when run at 30% max speed, but the PSU fans have an annoying whine to them.

I used Noctua NF-A20s in the power supplies as well as some 40x40x28mm quiet fans I had around and in both cases the switches get very acceptable for homelab use. The Noctua's raise the PSU temps by ~5C or so, but keep everything well within reasonable ranges.

Looking at the seller's other offerings it's clear to see he specializes in switches and related gear. He probably knows his market, knows when to hold them and knows when to fold them.

I deal directly with Dedicated networks and for work I order about a pallet a month of cisco and arista switches. They amazing vendor to deal with.
yea, my switch was professionally packed and in pristine condition. They even reset it to factory defaults which is a nice touch.

It's in mint condition and has a set of new rails. There's nothing to complain about here.
