Still no takers on the Ryzen models :( According to AliExpress they've sold a number of units - but nobody has spoken up about the quality and reliability . . . . Hard to find ANY information except for a nice Chinese video : Ryzen 5825U i226 Firewall and here and here at least we are getting some good visuals from the inside!! ;)
I ordered a barebone one a few days ago, maybe I'll regret it :)
I see in the first video you posted a 52W power consumption measured at the wall (seems like during a gaming test though). I hope more like 15-20W max when idle!

I'm expecting around 10-20W idle. That architecture is very efficient. For those willing to wait Zen 4 has an "E" series with a TDP of 9W for fanless use. Now that thing will sip fuel.

Looks like AMD wants to hit Intel's Celerons, ARM, and some of the other SoCs.

WooYi seems to be pretty fast with shipping. I ordered on the 22nd and tracking says it was put on a plane the 27th.

They have the 1338NP-12 mobo systems with N5105 or N5100. Cooler may require shims though, If you don't mind some fiddling.

Well i guess Topton is bullshiting and they don't have any stock...i guess i will wait till start of next week then contact AliExpress support.
It takes em a while. But honestly they need to be called out for using pre-production CPUs, shoddy application of thermal paste, and uneven contacts with the CPU.

I'm sure there's more that we just don't know about with them.

So, I've got my topton mini pc in the mail. It's a pentium gold 7505 variant, with 4 2.5gbe ports.

The unit is quite large (18x12x5,5cm) and absolutely heavy, about 1200g with just the ssd installed. The power brick appears to be a 48W 12V 4A LiteON.

I've installed a single 8gb ram stick I had around and a small sata ssd to test with. Without modifications, cpu temperatures would skyrocket into the 70-75°C under light loads in Win 10 and reach 100°C and throttle under stress test even with the default 15W PL1 power limit.

So I've decided to open the machine and oh boy, was I in for a surprise. The thermal paste is abundant as usual with those devices, and looks a bit too thick on the core and iGPU. The contact plate is aluminum instead of copper (like other devices) and there's nothing to get contact to the NIC chips. Also, upon removing the cpu plate, the thermal paste application was even worse, and the aluminum below looks straight out of the sandblasting machine with no further milling or cleaning. At least there's no paint.

Once I had cleaned the cpu and heatsink and mounted everything together, I was presented with a rather nasty picture.

Looks like there's at least 0.4mm of gap between the cpu's silicon and the heatsink. Instead of using a spacer, I've measured the four standoffs on the heatsink with a calipber and slowly filed them back about 0.35mm. Having the cooler out, I took some time to wet sand the contact pad with some 600-800 grit sandpaper and clear any visible residue.

Once I had the heatsink dry, I heated it up with a blowtorch to 60-65°C to allow better thermal compound flow, repasted with some arctic MX4 and appled back the aluminum spacer. The standoffs got some more work with fine sandpaper to clean up the edges and a bit of electrical tape on top to protect the board from scratches.

Assembled back everything, set the power limits in bios to 22W PL1 and 30W PL2 and started testing. After a few minutes of Linpack, the heatsink had soaked a lot of heat and stabilized at 77-78°C at 25W power. Running at 15W the unit never passed 60-63°C in 20°C ambient.

Running Cinebench R23 at 25W, in a single run I've got a score of 2660. Passmark CPU test around 5400.

Tomorrow I'll install proxmox and ready the system for it's final use, a router / home server mix for a future FTTH installation. Overall I'm happy with the build, it does require a fair bit of tweaking to fix the assembly and thermal issues.

I just ordered one of the 4 port ones that has an i3-1115G4 after seeing it available for under $200 shipped today. It compares rather favorably vs the 7505 and N5105 I had looked at previously.

Yep, perfect example of some of his work. I'm just glad you fixed it. I wonder if the Ryzens are just as bad.

I found these 4-port mini PCs with i3/i5/i7 of Topton brand equip with i225 NICs, not newer i226.

Yes it is unfortunatly... I went through the same experiance with Topton. I ordered from Topton on the 03/08 and 3 weeks later my order still hadn't been shipped. I ended up having to cancelling the order and reordered through CWWK. Topton will keep taking everyone's money even when his out of stock. And anyone who has been following this thread from the start will know that Topton also sells units with the ES/QS sample chips and not retail.. Sorry, but he is as dodge as f%#$.
Seems like it. Ordered 6 weeks ago. They marked as "shipped" within a couple of days but they haven't actually sent anything out yet. Seller gives no actual response to questions beyond "pls wait dear".

CWWK costs substantially more (for the base model 5825U - no RAM/SSD they want €553 with no express shipping like DHL) - from all others its €452 plus €27 for DHL shipping - That's another reason I'm holding back - on Amazon Germany there is a unit from KinvoyPC but it's only the 5800U unit (which is awfully tempting because there seems to be very little difference between the 5825U and 5800U) :rolleyes:
I might be wrong but last time i checked the N5105 at CWWK it was at around 210 USD. Maybe they do the same like so many: rise the prices ahead of 11.11. and then sell items at "discount" - which either means same price like before the spike, or even higher prices.

No, not seen anyone mentioning these. and it would be great if you could measure the power consumption (idle). I have seen a lot of people - including me - with a focus on power consumption of these things, mostly due to sharply increased electricity prices. So the more info we have, the better.

I've got a few bits of information about power draw from the mini pc I'm using (pentium 7505, 8gb ddr4 single stick, sata ssd, 4xi225-v b3). Measured at the plug with a power meter, i get the following values:

With one NIC active:
18W - Idle on bios
10.5-11W - Fully loaded proxmox with no VMs running
12-12.5W - One VM running OPNsense with no traffic.

OpnSense, multiple NICS:
14W - 2 nics
15W - 3 nics
16W - 4 nics

Settings:
PL1 15W
PL2 25W
Enable C-states
Set PECI to off
Enable turbo
Enable Speedstep
Set ACPI as auto

Proxmox 7.2-11 running kernel 5.19.7-2 and last intel microcode.

The power supply (Liteon PA-1480) should be rated at something around 88% efficiency looking at similar models. Can't find a specific data sheet.

I've ran a few test using stress-ng on the bare host, no VMs running. these are the power draws and temps (with a 120mm silverstone fan running at 5V on top):

18-20W 1 thread, CPU usage reported 25-26% - Package 44°C, core 0 32°C, core1 44°C
21-22W 2 threads, CPU usage reported 50-51% - Package 46°C, core 0 43°C, core1 46°C
24-25W 3 threads, CPU Usage reported 75-76% - - Package 48°C, core 0 48°C, core1 42°C
27-28W 4 threads, CPU Usage reported 100% - - Package 52°C, core 0 50°C, core1 52°C

All this with PL1 15W and PL2 25W.

Running Linpack inside the windows 10 VM on all cores I've got the machine up to 27-28W with the same settings. Max temps 62-63°C with the fan.

Bumping the PL1 to 22.5W and PL2 to 35W the machine draws 35-36W under the same conditions, I will run a benchmark to be sure it's improved performance or just heat.

Edit: a few bits of info from linpack, 2gb "short" benchmark inside the windows 10 VM.

PL1 15W - PL2 25W - 51 GFlops - Power draw 29W
PL1 25W - PL2 35W - 69 GFlops - Power Draw 38-40W

Thank you for all the information.
The sweet spot looks like "PL1 15W - PL2 25W - 51 GFlops - Power draw 29W", but if you ever need more in future, it's there to use. I like it.

Probably I'll buy the same box/mb, but with N5105, I'm looking for a lower price range.

Where in the BIOS is everyone changing their PL1 and PL2 values?

I see two places to change these values in my BIOS. One under the Turbo sub menu and another one at a higher level.

Do we need to change it in both places?

Sure thing. Patrick mentioned in one of the video reviews that the power brick for these tends not to be very efficient. What are people replacing them with?

FYI all, looks like Topton is running Halloween sale starting 1 Nov. They dropped the prices on N5105 and Ryzen 7.

EDIT: $3 off every $30 spent
