Hey folks,
I've created a 3D printable adapter that allows you to use the Amazon Basics heatsink on Asrock Rack D15XXD4I motherboards (e.g., D1521D4I, D1520D4I, etc.). This adapter lets you reuse the original heatsink screws with their springs.
I hope it will be as useful for you as it has been for me!
The Amazon heatsink is asymmetrical, meaning one part covers the screws used to secure the adapter. The adapter features a rounded end and an angled end. The angled part should face outward, while the rounded part goes inward.
Mounting instructions:
- Print two copies of the adapter.
- Install the first copy without the heatsink, as the heatsink would cover the screw points.
- Apply thermal paste to the CPU.
- Slide the heatsink slightly at an angle to fit under the secured adapter.
- Place the second copy of the adapter on the opposite side and tighten the screws.
Since switching to this heatsink, my idle temperatures have dropped from 49°C to 36°C. I printed the adapter using MJF PA12 (nylon) for enhanced mechanical strength. I’ve added sponge bumpers on the underside of the adapter to prevent minimal shifting due to tolerances.
You can find the adapter design
