Depends if it's read cache or write cache, and if the cache needs high sequential transfer or high iops with moderate sequential. If it's not a write cache most enterprise SSD even the affordable S3500 800gb would work great and be way faster IOPs-wise than 8x of those drives. Can you share what you're using that many of these drives for?
I'm gonna get like 8 drives for a cache raid array. Its for video production workstation.
What do you guys think? This or a single 960gb ssd? I'm just worry about the write endurance of the ssd, being a cache drive
You want to look at multiples of 12 as they ship in one box. It may also speed up in getting the shipping costs from them. The offer I submitted for 14 has gone unanswered for over 24hrs. How long does it usually take them to respond?
Sometimes they don't answer at all and your offer times out. I just resubmit the same offer with a "I don't know if you missed it because of the weekend" note, and they then accept. The offer I submitted for 14 has gone unanswered for over 24hrs. How long does it usually take them to respond?
Not to defend them, but I'm guessing your demand for their supply caused them to increase the price. The auction automatically relists when it ends, so it's no big deal if you miss it. Again, they have THOUSANDS of these drives and they want to sell them to anyone that wants them....I had to call them as my first had timed out (it was over the weekend). Them my second offer (made on Monday morn) had 4 hours left and still with no response, so I called... However doing this probably added $1 per drive as a hassle/asshole tax for bugging them as they then would only accept $16 per...
To clarify; it wasn't the auction itself that was timing out, but my second offer that had at that point gone unanswered... As I stated, they evidently may adjust an asshole tax into the price if you gotta contact them by phone...Not to defend them, but I'm guessing your demand for their supply caused them to increase the price. I kinda think my 8" is very special too!I am jealous of your setup Fritz! I kinda think that all 2.5 incher's are special. I don't know why. I just "respect" them. I feel that way about all my 2.5' drives!
What do you use for checking your drives ? do you use a bootable usb stick with a specific os bundle and a specific tool ?@felmyst, everything is up and running with the LSI 9200-8e HBAs I got! I'm checking 50 drives at a time:
I'll let you know in 27 hours the results.
Lots of possibilities. Haven't really decided yet. Maybe a pigeonhole server. So what do you do with your new ces216? Fritz. Raid them for fun?
I'm using DBAN (dban.org), which isn't the best of tools, but I figure flipping all of the bits three times will do the trick. Out of the 50 I've tested so far, I've only got one that said its giving me problems. However, SMART for that drive still shows good and after popping the drive out and putting it back in, I tested it again alone and it passed with flying colors. What do you use for checking your drives ? do you use a bootable usb stick with a specific os bundle and a specific tool ?
