Hello,

initally I bought 2x CrucialDIMM 16 GB ECC Registered DDR3-1600, RAM (CT16G3ERSLD4160B) for my Asus P9A-I.

(It worked with 2x 8GB)

But Murphys law kicked in, and of course the Asus doesn't even start up.
Neiter does the Supermicro A1SAM board.

From your experience: Should I RMA them (wouldn't be a problem)
or would you expect that theses DIMMs will work after some kind of BIOS update?

Solution is: RMA the DIMMs because I didn't pay attention to the fact that this is "registered" RAM - So its not supported.

Thanks @vegaman and @MiniKnight

Those boards only support unbuffered ECC (or non-ECC), not registered. So unfortunately that's the expected behavior.
Yes. There are allegedly some 16GB unbuffered ecc DIMMs out there but they are almost impossible to find and not from any of the big companies.

You are really looking for 8GB unbuffered ECC DIMMs with the C2000 family

Thank you very much. To be honest: That difference slipped my mind when I was browsing for the 16GB DIMMs (Trying to max out the P9A-I in terms of RAM)
