Good day
I have a "SAS 9286-8e" PCIe card with SFF8066 connectors.
I would like to use it for a JBOD, but for that I need the IT mode (for ZFS).
Does someone know if this 9286-8e card can do IT mode? I found contradictory information, some even sell this card on eBay claiming it has IT mode firmware, on the Broadcom website however I cannot find any IT mode firmware (cannot even find this particular card there).

Or should I use another card?

It cannot is the simple answer. You're probably better off buying something more normal instead, either a straight HBA or a low-end RAID controller that's been crossflashed.
That said, if you're adventurous, the card is free and have time to burn, it is possible to crossflash at least some cards based on the SAS2208 RAID controller and make them think they're an SAS2308, which does do IT mode. See Flashing LSI 2208 with IT firmware to use as an HBA - My Wired House and https://forums.servethehome.com/index.php?threads/lsi-9270-8i-it-mode.16085/

Again, unless you're looking for something to do to kill time and learn something in the process, just buy a suitable HBA instead.
