I connected the management port (labeled out-of-band) to our existing switch and set it to dhcp, it was able to get an IP from our dhcp server. I can ssh to it within the network. What I want to do now is make this an extension switch. However, if I connect a device to any port regardles 10GB or 1GB, none are lit as if they are disabled. What do I need to check here?

After a little more research I think what I really want is to set up one of the 1Gb ports to be a trunk that will be connected to another switch. How do I achieve this?

I purchased a Delta Networks ET-DT7024 switch from eBay for $125.00 less than the asking price. They put Dell PowerConnect 8024f firmware 5.1.10.1 on the switch and said it would be just like a Dell PowerConnect 8024f. After playing with it for a couple hours it seems they were correct, it shows and preforms like the DEll switch.

The nice part is it has a GUI plus the 24 10 GB ports can be used as 10 GB or 1 GB. I removed my Netgear M5300-52G and Quanta LB6M as the Delta Networks ET-DT7024 replaced them because of the ability to use 10 GB or 1 GB on the SFP+ ports.

It's a little on the noisy side but I have some replacement fans coming from CoolerGuys, #DF124028BL-3G. I took the 2 P/S from the Quanta LB6M because they already had 22 omh 2 watt resistors installed, not completely quite, but can stay in the room with it.

That's great news. I have the same exact switch but I haven't been able to use it yet since none of the ports seems to be active. I've already tried doing a factory reset. I may look into getting the Dell firmware installed. I just need to know if a straight firmware dump can be achieved without pre-requisites.

Let us know if the replacement fans are quieter. I'm hoping they are.

Henryn, try entering config mode and issuing a
Code:
no shutdown all
and see if that enables all the ports (assuming the DNI uses the "standard" Broadcom command set).

If it works, don't forget to save the config to the startup config.

This is VERY cool. Do you have any idea how they loaded it? Was it a strait install with TFTP or was there more in depth done to it? FYI Dell released new firmware for this in the past few days your probably back level at this point.

Here the link to the latest code.

Dell PowerConnect 8024/8024F, Firmware Version 5.1.11.1 Driver Details | Dell US

The only issue is now I wonder because you have the Dell code loaded are you stuck with only using Dell optics/DACs ? Let us know how this goes...

@teebee
Thanks for the heads up on the new firmware, I'll send a message to the seller and see if it just a TFTP transfer.

The SFP+ DACs I'm using are Netgear AXC763-10000 that I bought from eBay.

I also use D-Link Compatible DGS-712 1000Base-T RJ-45 Copper SFP Transceiver modules for the 1 GB. All SFP+ and SFP modules work as expected.

I have several Intel E10GSFPSR FTLX8571D3BCV-IT E65689-001 SFP+ transceivers coming, but won't know it they work until I install.

I've send a message to the seller to confirm if the firmware upgrade is just a standard TFTP or if another method has to be used. I'll share the results when I get his message.
As I don't live in the US, shipments tend to take around 3 weeks to reach me. I'll post the results of the fan replacement in a couple of weeks.

No answer from the seller as of now, this my be what we are looking for. It was first loaded with firmware version 4.2.1.3 then updated to 5.1.10.1.

Dell PowerConnect,8024,8024F,V4.2.1.3,A12 can be found here.

Edit : I just received a message from the seller of Delta Networks ET-DT7024, he said it can be "TFTP directly". This is for the Delta Networks ET-DT7024, don't know if it's the same as Delta Broadcom ET-DT7040

They're the same switch, just different branding I think. With the default Delta software, you can transfer via tftp, scp or ftp. I will RMA the switch that I received since all methods I tried failed to even activate the ports. Hopefully the replacement will be problem free.

Hi I just got an ET-7024 switch off ebay and instead of wiping the configuration, I accidently wiped the flash. Now the switch boots to a "ERROR:can't get kernel image!" and leaves me at a basic linux .

I have tried
tftpboot <firmware.img>
bootm

which shows me firmware info and then hangs.
I have been trying the firmwares:
lb6m.1.0.0.13.bin
lb6m.1.0.0.17.bin
lb6m.1.2.0.14.bin
lb6m.1.2.0.17.img
PC8024v4.2.1.3.stk
PC8024v5.1.11.1.stk

Any suggestions on how to get the firmware back on?

Thanks

Is there are differencies bethween ET-DT7024 wich we see it can be flashed with DELL firmware and ET-DT7040 that Unix+ sells for $419 ?
For me thay look same... One of them are named Delta Broadcom other are Delta Networks...
I am eager to get some 7040 to try them :)

>> If you have a Quanta lb6m, it accepts SFP+ (10GbE) not SFP (1 GbE)
Good to know. I just inserted a juniper sfp+ optic, but nothing shows up on 'sh port all'

Does it only show link?

Also, 'sh port all' lists up to 1/64. What are all these extra ports? My switch only has 24 stp slots.

Thanks,

Joe
