Hello πατρίδα, just got email from support that my order (placed 12/01) was shipped from Hong Kong on January 19th and is expected to arrive in Germany in 7-10 days before being sent to me. I will also receive tracking number once it leaves from German warehouse.Anyone in Europe got any info on it? i received today the 96Gb ram and 2 x 990pro 2TB so i am a bit eager
I hope this is the case for me also.Hello πατρίδα, just got email from support that my order (placed 12/01) was shipped from Hong Kong on January 19th and is expected to arrive in Germany in 7-10 days before being sent to me. I will also receive tracking number once it leaves from German warehouse.
An alternative might be to add an pi-kvm pcie card. fot this to work you whould need an accessible front i/o header to get the romte power, reset button and activity led.It has the necessary equipment to support Intel vPro, so you have a kinda-sorta OOB solution. I've toyed around with vPro on my Asrock IMB-X1314 and it's Fine; certainly better than nothing, but I've found it buggier than an actual IPMI.
(That being said I use the now-defunct MeshCommander firmware loader, so perhaps that's buggier than other ways of interfacing with vPro.)
Yes, a lenovo P520 (xeon) has way more PICE lanes and slots and makes a great cheap nas, but could I fit it easily in the underseat personal item backpack I use on airplanes?Yeah! Even more heat in this very limited space in a small system that is already thermally challenged. Great idea! Burn, baby, burn!!!
Seriously, people who want a NAS, be it with HDDs or with SSDs, should look at a properly sized system with the proper I/O (and proper cooling!) rather than trying to cram even more hardware in a system which is designed to be SMALL.
The cheapest PCIe 4.0 switch card I've found (Broadcom P411W-32P) is more expensive than a MS-01. One could get a refurbished 1st/2nd gen. Xeon Scalable or EPYC system for that money.
I don't foresee any issues personally, but make sure you read this first.Guys i never had usb-c as monitor output so i bought this to get also some other outputs but now that i bought it, i thought to ask after to be sure that it will work with my Displayport monitor.
How are you planning to power the IcyDock? I've been also wanting to use IcyDock for a jbod, for a small pc or laptop even, but not sure how to power them.I just got my kit in today and it's working great with ProxMox.
I Ordered my unit back in December when it first went on sale, I was researching the HP & Lenovo minis at the time and this seemed so much more featured. 10GB, PCIe 4 x8 wired(wish it was x16) and USB4 was just too good to pass up, and I didnt know there were youtube reviews coming. I received it last monday but i had to go out of town and i was wrestling with getting 64GB ram or 96GB. I ended up going with 64GB since it was going to be a bit difficult to get my 4090 connected for AI work(Gaussian Splatting). If i upgrade to 96GB i'll probably just end up using the 64GB kit in anther mini PC or Laptop/Tablet. This will be my on set server for data and docker services when I shoot Films. I plan to add a 9500-8e and an Icy Dock 2 bay U.2 for 5.25" bay holding 2x 15TB Intel drives in a RAID 1. Then put everything inside a 3D Printed 5.25" bay enclosure to hold and hide the cables. I already have one holding an internal bluray drive for backing up/viewing my collection. Although I probably should get the 9500-16e and then i can get the 4 Bay, but i feel like 4Bay would be limited by the PCIe 4 x8 wiring. I'm new to server ssds and i am very open to learning anything and everything about them, i already own other used server components. And of course that 15TB 7mm Samsung internally sounds great too. Either way with the GL inet router as a repeater this should be a great off-grid/take anywhere server to hold my footage when i shoot and then some. I want to add NDI and other things that can help consolidate important info on set. By them time i'm done i'll have basically spent as much as a nice Thread Ripper Pro system lol (which i also kinda sorta want to build).
I've been looking into this, and basically the easiest way is probably going to be to get a regular, preferably fully modular, computer power supply and short a few pins on the motherboard connector to force it to turn on. Then you can just use the SATA ports without having anything else connected. How are you planning to power the IcyDock? I've been also wanting to use IcyDock for a jbod, for a small pc or laptop even, but not sure how to power them.
Also are you / how planning to connect a 4090 to this minisforum?
Thanks!
You're not wrong but apparently it works on the 12900H at least: https://forums.servethehome.com/ind...nd-ram-compatibility-thread.42785/post-407875^ Afaict, the 12th gen is 64 GB memory max: Intel® Core™ i5-12450H Processor (12M Cache, up to 4.40 GHz) Product Specifications
I have the 12900h model and it's working perfectly with Mushkin Redline 96GB (2x48GB) DDR5 Laptop 5200 CL40. I tested with proxmox memtest86+ for 8 passes. You're not wrong but apparently it works on the 12900H at least: https://forums.servethehome.com/ind...nd-ram-compatibility-thread.42785/post-407875
There is long history of Intel understating RAM capabilities, all the way back to Pentium days. There were no 48gb sodimms available to test with when 12th gen laptop chips were released so ARK pages only listed what could be tested when they were published…and then they are never updated.^ Afaict, the 12th gen is 64 GB memory max: Intel® Core™ i5-12450H Processor (12M Cache, up to 4.40 GHz) Product Specifications
Oh .. the 2 USB4 ports on the box are not USB4?I don't foresee any issues personally, but make sure you read this first.
it's because all the ports are mounted on what is effectively the bottom side of the motherboard. The jacks dont really exist in the opposite orientation to buy. You'll find removing an RJ45 from the lan ports fun, as the locking tab is facing the edge where there is very little room for your fingers. To make something so compact and low cost, some compromises had to be made. Hardly a deal breaker.Setting up my unit which arrived today, without the HBA for now. I've already found the first major design flaw: when using the Logi Bolt USB receiver with the MS-01, the "logi" logo on the receiver is upside down
Not what I was highlighting. I have seen some "USB4" docks not present themselves properly to the host so they lower the default speed. As the note said "some" TB/USB4 host controllers dont negotiate at the full TB/USB4 rate even through the vendors controller in the dock says it is.Oh .. the 2 USB4 ports on the box are not USB4?
