Speaking of ebay. I was just looking for 4U supermicro deals, and came across this.
Supermicro Server 4U with RoHS H8DGI F Rev 1 0 Motherboard and 16 Core CPUs | eBay

It's from a seller with very little rep, but the specs are amazing. 2 Opteron 6376 (32 cores total) on H8DGi-F in 36bay supermicro case with redundant 1400w power supply. For $500 it looks too good to be true. It's way too much computing power and noise than what I am looking for. So I am just throwing it out there in case a someone is interested in a gamble.

EDIT: took out the case model since it's speculation on my part.

Looks like some sort of Supermicro 847 chassis. No idea if it is an expander or not. The non-expander SC847's sell for about as much as this auction is going for. That is a really good find @ywchang84

From the backplane, looks like a single expander chassis model, can't tell if it's a SAS-1 or SAS-2 backplane. Nice system.

So looks like external SAS expander ports off the back? So if one took that $150 Intel 9268 adapter from the other thread, and looped the ports back, that'd be one way to use this? I kind of wish there were two of them :)

Already sold. :( I did an offer yesterday, but someone bought it at full price. Well, it'll be for a next time. :)

FYI - ordered 4U server + mobo + raid card and was delivered 4 LTO4 TAPES instead. Package/tracking said 68lbs but box was only 12x12x8 on tracking, and actual. Hopefully they handle it all smooth as my past transactions with them, and hope they don't tell me "oh we don't have that server anymore"... grrr, had that happen once with them too.

The tapes go for 10-30$ on ebay. I have 4, so maybe 40 to 120$. I wish I had a LTO 4 drive, I have old school :) but tons of TB at little $ so I'm ok.

I paid around $600 for a server, raid card, motherboard, and more... I think I'd take what I paid for, and not be called a liar by the seller ;) who tried to convince me it was 68lbs and dropped off at my door. Hopefully pictures, and size references of the box convince them to find the server and ship it :)

I had a few issues with them on an order as well. They more or less made everything right in the end but it was more work than it should have been and they certainly didn't go out of their way like some of the amazing sellers out there. Hope it all gets sorted for you with minimal headache :)

Looks like they printed 2 labels, and mailed me some random tapes + my server and the server is in Sacramento getting re-routed BACK but Nick@Liquid8 figured it out, and should be here in a day or two.

He also sent a return label for the tapes.

This is great service, prompt replies and even talked on the phone a brief minute.

If only someone on this forum would act so professionally.

THANK YOU NICK!

Looks like a similar deal to this thread is back on: https://forums.servethehome.com/index.php?threads/banging-24-bay-barebones-deal.3992/

This time though it includes for $550 + 80 shipping with no BO option:
-Supermicro SC846 (not sure of backplane type/model)
-Supermicro X9DR3-F mobo (contains 8x SAS ports)
-1 1200w psu
-LSI MegaRAID SAS 9271-4i (no battery)
-Right rack ear is damaged

Supermicro X9DR3 F 4U CSE 846 24 HD Bay Storage Server BAREBONES 9271 4i RAID | eBay

Just noticed that it looks like they only have 1 in stock :/

That's my return.

I never looked at the backplane model so I can't shed any light on that, but it does have the CPU duct and 2 heatsinks (with fans).

Funny.

Mine is still "lost" at the wrong customer's house who apparently is refusing to return calls/e-mails to liquid8 about getting it sent on back to me where it belongs. From order date it's been a couple weeks now :(

Messaged Liquid8 today about replacement... they may offer me yours, LOL. (NO reply so far, all day.) For me it's more-so the E5 v1/v2 board inside I need to test CPUs and 100s of gigs of RAM with...

Since that BROKEN INTEL board from the scammer on this forum, I don't have an E5 v1/v2 board outside my multi-node chassis, and without my KVM adapter I'm dead in water... I HATE waiting 2+ weeks to test ebay parts...

/rant off!

Well I have a replacement on the way now since the original is now in the wind.

What's upsetting is Liquid8 is blaming fedex 100% when it's their own fault they printed two labels and sent the wrong items to me +mine on the same label. They also refused to expedite shipping of the replacement from their location, and said only if fedEx would cover it -- they won't.

Bay far the slowest, and worst recovery/replacement of goods I've had to deal with so far from ebay sellers.
