2x 2667v2, ASUS P8 motherboard, 8x16GB RAM, and 6x8tb WD Reds all idle at ~120w at the wall for me.got me a 2660v, a 1p asrock mobo and 8x16gb which i haven't put together. been wondering what it would idle at. 115W idle for dual proc. not bad.

Check the supported CPU list for your motherboard and see.Do those 2660v2s work in X79 boards, assuming microcode BIOS update? Got a P9X79 sitting in a box I'd rather put to work in the rack.
I translate your question to "I was too lazy to look at Asus' CPU support page: P9X79 | Motherboards | ASUS USA"Do those 2660v2s work in X79 boards, assuming microcode BIOS update? Got a P9X79 sitting in a box I'd rather put to work in the rack.
What's a good motherboard to pair with the 2660 v2? I'm doing some searching to upgrade my server mainly for Plex. I'm using a 1220 v3 and Supermicro X10SLL-F right now.actually ebay current spot price of e5-2660 v2 is slightly cheaper than e5-2670 v1
e5-2660 v2 $115 or less: SR1AB INTEL XEON E5-2660V2 10 CORE 2.20GHz 95W PROCESSOR FOR DELL T5600 C8220 | eBay
2670 v1 $124: SR0KX Intel Xeon E5-2670 2.6GHz Eight Core (CM8062101082713S) Processor 675901145510 | eBay
The multithread performance of 2660 v2 is actually slightly better than 2670 v1.... for lower power consumption. Single thread slightly slower but who cares.... it's a win win for multithread. Forget 2670 v1.....
no point getting 2670 v2 as it's the same price as 2680 v2...
Cheapest mb option probably would be the intel s2600cp... be aware that cpu needs to be on its support list to work, which the 2660 v2 is (but 2696 v2 isnt and didnt work even though it wasnt a qs/es cpu)What's a good motherboard to pair with the 2660 v2? I would also need the memory to go with it. I think a 4x4GB (16GB) kit would be enough for my purposes.
Any non dual socket recommendations?Cheapest mb option probably would be the intel s2600cp... be aware that cpu needs to be on its support list to work, which the 2660 v2 is (but 2696 v2 isnt and didnt work even though it wasnt a qs/es cpu)
just get a dual socket supermicro x9 board and run only 1 cpu in it. just pay attention to which pci E slots are controlled by which cpuAny non dual socket recommendations?
See the cheap Chinese x79 MB thread. most of which are around $120-180.Any non dual socket recommendations?
I have those 1 socket LGA2011 boards on eBay (100eu+-) with ram and cpu configure to order if you like, send a pm.Any non dual socket recommendations?
that's a great price. i think it's a little harder to find them at that price right now; they are trending around $170-180.I paid 150 each for my 2680v2s. 10 cores each with all that you need. Boosts to 3ghz on all cores.

The VT-D and VT-X features were implemented mid-cycle for the V1 CPUs which is why the SROKX stepping 2670 is more desirable than the other one. V2 CPUs all have the feature, so there's only one retail model. Thanks, Any special model for these 2680V2 that have vtd and vtx ?
Except that it just did a few days ago. Our favorite eBay sellers now have them for ~$200.yeah second that. 2680 v2 is def the sweet spot right now. you should get it now rather than wait i've notice cpu price has all gone up lately...except 2680v2
