having real problem getting the e5-2696 v2 cpu to work on my s2600cp MB. I am not the only one. Trying to verify if this is MB incompatibility or cpu defective... stay tune...
Yeh that would be my next plan to go V3 or V4 route, once I get bored of the V2s which hopefully arriving end of next week. Next upgrade gonna hurt though, new board, CPUs, and shift to DDR4. Have you already got a board? What are you budgeting if you don't mind me asking?ebay, of course. it's a decent deal but not unexpected. price will probably drop even more soon. It's like the last hurray for the 2011 v1 platform upgrade. so now my s2600cp MB can finally use PCI express 3.0....lol..
I already got another build going based on 2011 v3 with dual 2686 v3..
did you also recently get the 2696 v2 on ebay recently? if you did, which seller? also are you using s2600cp MB?Yeh that would be my next plan to go V3 or V4 route, once I get bored of the V2s which hopefully arriving end of next week. Not sure whether it's relevant but have a look at this, I can't see the E5-2696 on this list...did you also recently get the 2696 v2 on ebay recently? if you did, which seller? also are you using s2600cp MB?
Bit shitty of Intel if they haven't included compatibility for the E5-2696 V2, don't get me wrong the S2600 has been a great used board for me at a great price, but there seems to be a lot of proprietary restrictions with these Intel boards. No chance of running anything ES or QS. The Intel downgrade from PCIe 3 to 2 for any cards that aren't on the Intel 'approved' list didn't go down too well with me either. All the more so because there is no 16x slot, only 8x slots on these boards. HP seem to place lots of restrictions with their Workstation boards too, they use a 'boot block date' which prevents you upgrading to next gen processors. I'm fairly new to the server board world so live and learn I guess.2680 v2 is on intel official list for s2600cp so you won't have a problem as long as bios is updated.
2696 v2 is 130W so tdp is not a problem. the question is still at this point s2600 incompatibility with 2696 v2 vs a defective batch of chips from one seller. hope to have the answer soon b/c i like to do one last upgrade for my s2600cp system.
In general SM plays well with others. You just have to watch out of the EE-ATX boards if you are trying to put it in a non-SM case.Consequently I'm thinking to go Supermicro board next time for E5 V3 or V4. Question to all: So is it all sweetness and light with Supermicro? Any negatives to go with them? Do they run those cheap ES, QS samples OK? Thanks!
Keep in mind , ASUS is ok with V3 ES/QS CPU, not so good with V4 ES/QS CPU.asus boards are very tolerant of es/qs
But I want dual cpu slots....Keep in mind , ASUS is ok with V3 ES/QS CPU, not so good with V4 ES/QS CPU.
Asrock x99 extreme series board is the go to board for V3 and V4 ES CPU.
I buy Asrock extreme4 or higher on Ebay anytime when the price hits $90-$110. I just can't help myself.
Two months ago, picked up a Asrock extreme6 for $106 on Ebay.
For me, X99 and V3 CPU is the price sweet spot today. Cheap MB, and cheap CPU.
I had a similar issue with E5-2660v2 in the same MB. Took the CPU out, wiped the contract with a alcohol pad and the prob cleared.Ebay 2 x E5-2680 V2s arrived from China, only took 4 days, no import tax too, so well pleased. Popped them in my S2600 CP2J board yesterday, all 40 threads recognised immediately, but board was showing fault on one DIMM from boot on CPU1, swapped the DIMMs around then the fault jumped to another unrelated DIMM on other side of CPU?&%*^. Came back for another go today, and the memory fault has completely gone, I've rebooted 6 times since and all is still good, anyone else seen that?
CPU core temps max out at 60 deg C, 19 deg C ambient, all cores nailed to 100% in render.
Thanks, it's come back again on a different DIMM so I'll try the alchohol.I had a similar issue with E5-2660v2 in the same MB. Took the CPU out, wiped the contract with a alcohol pad and the prob cleared.
