Hello,

I have recently acquired a few 14 TB WD Red Plus drives, and I'm wondering if there's a newer firmware available for it that I might want to install.

I've been thinking about this since I heard of recent firmware issues with some of Samsung's SSD drives.

Currently, my drives have firmware version 85.00A85.

I looked for specific firmware information on WD's support website, and I couldn't find it.

Any tips?

Thanks,

Some people said the WD Dashboard on Windows might support firmware update for HDDs. I'm not sure as I don't run Windows, but it's possible that WD doesn't publish firmware updates for retail drives anymore (as opposed to Ultrastars, which you can get firmware through WD support.)

Seagate is definitely better in this regard since you can just download firmware updates on their website.

I don't normally use Windows either, but I gave that a try. The WD Dashboard app wouldn't didn't appear to support firmware updates for my WD Red Plus 14TB drives (although there was definitely functionality in there to check for new firmware updates for a consumer SSD from WD I also happen to own).

I guess I'll just stick to the built-in firmware for now.
