So I've been on the hunt for an upgrade for my home network (for number of reasons some "need" based and some just "want" based). I'm on a limited budget (putting together my 30TB AIO server has made the WAF pretty low). I'm looking to consolidate my current 4 switches (2 Procurve 1810-24G's, 1 Procurve 6108 for L3, and 1 Procurve 2600-8-PWR for PoE) into one (or two at the worst) So my requirements:
Quiet.
Why: Home lab. At least the option of replacing fans.
Layer 3 (lite is OK)
Why: InterVLAN routing, Consolidate and not have to use Router on a Stick.
24-48 ports
Why: If I can find one switch with 48 ports I can just use one switch and retire the two Procurve 1810's. If I have to settle for a 24 port so be it. Between PoE and Non-PoE I have 43 active connections.
10Gb ports (2)
Why: I've been maxing out my 2GBe bonded link way too often. Yes I could add more 1GB NIC's but I was gifted some 10GB cards for free so why not?
PoE (8 ports, 15.4w each)
Why: For my PoE Stuff dude! 3 Adtran BSAP-1920's, 4 camera's. This isn't a MUST have but a NICE to have since I could get rid of the HP 2600.
I've been following the Quanta LB4M thread and while tempting I've decided to pass on it, just a bit too flaky for my tastes. Here are the ones I have been looking at:
Avaya/Nortel ERS 5650TD-PWR (Fallback to ERS 5530-24TFD)
+ 48 ports, 10Gb (XFP), 802.3af on all ports and pretty nice L3.
Brocade/Foundry FLS648.
+ 48 ports, 10GB (XFP and CX4), Decent L3
- No PoE (just found out that I would need the FGS models, but the 48 port version is an oven!)
Juniper EX3200-48T (fallback to 24 port model)
+ 48 ports, L3, 10GB (SPF+ !!), 8 PoE ports but need PS
- Price!
Anyway your feedback if any of you have used these would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
