Shortly after viewing I received an offer for 11% off. It's not a steal but it's a fairly good deal for those who want a high DWPD drive and its the 5300 series which from my understanding has worked out a lot of the firmware issues from the 5100 and 5200 series, hence why it's still on initial firmware (please correct me if I'm wrong).

I clicked and watched it. If I get the offer too I'll report back. I might buy a few at 49$ for 1.6TB. They have PLP so should be fine for Ceph.

I recently got a lot of Micron 5200 ECO here in Europe (around 100 EUR for the Micron 5200 ECO 1.92TB, not a Steal, but keep in mind that's with 21% or 25% VAT on top and it's therefore [much] more expensive than the US).

What Issues with Micron 5100 or 5200 Firmware are you talking about exactly ? I previously read Micron / Intel are or were the few ones that publicly publish their Firmwares on their Websites (unlike e.g. Samsung, Oracle, Toshiba [?], etc) so I probably could download it from their Website.

Or is there a Thread here about that ? I know for some Samsungs there are special Procedures (e.g. Download Firmware from Dell and trim the first XXX Bytes etc) ...

It was mentioned in a few topics about issues with the 5100 specifically that was fixed with firmware updates, and Cisco has an advisory about it here (Cisco firmwares are identical but they increment by 1 afaik). if you need instructions for Micron firmware updates there are a few posts about it on STH. Unless you have HP or Cisco drives It should be as simple as running Micron Storage Executive and having it auto detect and let you upgrade. If not you can use MSECLI and flash firmware files downloaded by Micron's website (via free registration). If you need help just let me know.
