It looks like Intel has announced the Broadwell E3 chips, and it's a very limited selection.

    Intel® Xeon® Processor E3-1285L v4 (6M Cache, 3.40 GHz) 65 W P6300
    Intel® Xeon® Processor E3-1285 v4 (6M Cache, 3.50 GHz) 95 W P6300
    Intel® Xeon® Processor E3-1278L v4 (6M Cache, 2.00 GHz) 47 W P6300 EMBEDDED
    Intel® Xeon® Processor E3-1265L v4 (6M Cache, 2.30 GHz) 35 W P6300
    Intel® Xeon® Processor E3-1258L v4 (6M Cache, 1.80 GHz) 47 W P5700 EMBEDDED

I tend to lean towards the 1230 processors. Decent core count, hyperthreading, and cheap. It doesn't look like there's a E3 v4 1230. Is this normal? Should I just keep waiting? Or should I go looking for a couple of E3-1230v3 processors to fill out my rack?

Odd. I always found the 1230 to be the most common processor . Great combination of speed, HT and price.

Supposedly, Intel is only going to release a handful of Broadwell general-purpose chips, since Skylake is supposed to be released in August or September. Hence no high-powered desktop chips or E3 equivalents. Presumably the Broadwell E5s are still due this fall?

Looking again, These are all ones ending in 5's (include integrated graphics). That part got a huge boost with broadwell. Perhaps they are only refreshing the ones with integrated graphics and will not be releasing the others. CPU portion changed little and Skylake isn't that far off so perhaps they are just waiting...

I read this on the sth home with explanation awhile ago. Comments there I thought were spot on. Good to see unhappiness with intel and skylake leaks on ddr4 rdimm.
