Just got a Dell PowerConnect 8024F 24-Port 10GB SFP+ 4-Port 10GB RJ45 Layer 3 Switch for 200$ came with a 90 day DOA warranty and I'm going to need a few SPF+ modules! does anyone know of any compatibility issues with these? I would love to get 10GBT just for ease of use!

I jumped on the purchase before doing a lot of research due to the price, I figured I could sell it off and still come out ahead if it's not what I want/Need, that said has anyone had any experience with this switch? It will primarily be between my VM hosts and storage

That is a very good price for that switch, given that the Delta 7024 it is based on (the Delta has inferior firmware) is normally $500-ish.

You will want to shop for "Dell compatible" transceivers. Not all of them will work - there are some Dell parts that are switchable 1Gig/10Gig optics which are not intended for this model of Dell switch and won't be detected.

I'm glad to know it's a decent switch, hopefully the SPFs and Cables wont cost an arm and a leg!

I don't know how loud it is yet, will put it together this coming week, I'm waiting on the Transceivers and Cables. I ended up going with the Dell PowerConnect 407-10356 10GBASE-SR SFP+ Transceiver from FS.COm, and got some 5M cables to go with....My only concern are the NICs which came with transceivers...I went with Myricom 10G-PCIE-8A-R Network Interface +10GbE Transceiver because the price was right! Hopefully all plays well together

@AFisher ... just as a followup, did the 407-10356 10GBASE-SR SFP+ Transceiver work with the Dell 8024f ? I have tried several different SFP+ transceivers, 331-5311, E10GSFPSR & 407-10356 and all have failed to work in my Delta Networks ET-DT7024 24 Port 10GB SFP+ 4 x10GBase-T Layer 3 Switch with Dell PowerConnect 8024F firmware 5.11.1.1.

I have a few of those switches. I have used generic SFP's and SFP+ transceivers from FS with no problems.

@paulsa ... thanks for the info. This Delta Networks ET-DT7024 24 Port 10GB SFP+ 4 x10GBase-T Layer 3 Switch with Dell PowerConnect 8024F firmware 5.11.1.1 likes just about any DAC I use, but I haven't found a SFP+ that it will accept. I'll give the generic FS SFP+ a try.

can one of you with a dell 8024 run a command for me? Reboot into the boot menu, and hit option 5 "Display operational code vital product data" - then pastebin the output.

I have a way to flash the Delta 7024's over to Dells without jtag (similar to the quanta > brocade flash), but need the boot CRC and size info in that command to verify I have the bootloader properly extracted from Dells giant update STK. Thanks!

thanks so much! Is there any way you could update to the latest package available (.12 something, released december 1st), then run the boot code update command (bootcode update I think). Then run that command again? The CRC isn't matching but I think it might be because this is the code out of the latest .12 package

Just as a follow up on working SFP+ transceivers for the Delta Networks ET-DT7024 24 Port 10GB SFP+ 4 x10GBase-T Layer 3 Switch that has been changed into a Dell PowerConnect 8024F running firmware 5.11.1.1. I finally found a SFP+ transceiver that works, FTLX8571D3BCV-IT.

Awesome, thanks! Getting this bootloader extracted is going to be more of a pain in the ass then I thought, but doable
