I just bought a couple of the IBM branded i340s from eBay. As far as I can tell they're legit. But it sure is becoming a crap shoot buying anything, even from big name retailers like Amazon.

haha, looks like super faker, PCI ID is belong to Intel i350 PCI ID :p. I bet mac address is a clone or random hex number. the PCI ID is a clone!!

for example:
in your system, onboard Intel NIC tell the real truth :D
06:00.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82574L Gigabit Network Connection
Subsystem: Super Micro Computer Inc Device 10d3

fake one too. this is belong to Intel PCI ID, same as above

when a manufacture needs to sell the product, they have to register their to get unique pci ID

you can search pci id intel on -> PCI Devices , go to subsystem, go to device ( if available).

this is an example of realtek NIC on foxconn motherboard
02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 07)
Subsystem: Foxconn International, Inc. Device 0dba

It's pretty bad when a company decides to make a new factory in China..... not only to have their products faked.... but when things are that bad they CLONE a Whole "Real Factory".... often right next door.... to pump out the fakes.

I need some authentic i350-t2, and preferably I need HP branded. Do these look legit to you guys? I get the impression that they dont seem to be faking the rebrands, like HP, dell, lenovo... but I could just be flat wrong about that.

HP Ethernet 1GB 2 Port 361T Adapter 652497 B21 656241 001 652495 001 | eBay
That same seller has many other counterfeit items for sale. It was actually the same seller where my fake i350-T4 came from.

I guess now we need to keep in mind some OEM brands can't be trusted as well unfortunately.

Well thanks for letting me know. It looked pretty good except for the embossing. I was seeing stickers regarding complying to canadian regulations and the HP box and stickers, just didn't seem likely to be a counterfeit re-brand.

sigh.

thoughts on this one?

Intel Ethernet Server Adapter i350 T2 with Serial Port Cable I350T2G1P20 | eBay

sorry to run these by you guys. Up until the front page article was posted I didn't realize this was an issue.
Seems to be authentic to me. Even though the images are low resolution, it does seem to have an embossed Delta ethernet transceiver chip. It is used and from a USA seller. And the large inductor has white front on it unlike the counterfeit yellow ones.
