I bought this bundle a few months back for $900.
Its $849 now. Units are new with warranty.
Includes 12 x 2TB drives, LSI controller (Lenovo branded) rails, cable.
only 1 PS and 1 controller unit. no 2.5" unit in rear.
I bought additional accessories elsewhere.

I have 2 SA120 and happy to answer any questions.
They have 4 on sale now on ebay with lots of quantity.
deal is also available on Amazon

Boddy's right. too few deals posted lately .. and I picked on his last post ... sorry.

What's the idle power draw on this config of SA120 with no drives attached? (how much does 1 PS + 1 controller unit draw, idle?)

Good question. I can do one measurement quickly since both have 12 drives and are in idle.
It will take longer to unload the drives. Let me go see

80W with 12 drives + fans @ ?RPM. I am checking the RPM.
This is from my APC UPS with just the SA120 unit attached.
The Avocent power unit to which it is normally connected reads ~.8-1.2A but likely number is under 1.0 A

I will check the fan RPM and just the unit next - sans drives.

The Lenovo utility has 7 levels of fan settings. The 80W was at 4.
With 1 PS I have 5 fans installed.
Level 1: ~ 6200 rpm 72W
Level 7: ~17000 rpm 96W

Power numbers taken from APC UPS with 12 x 2T Toshiba SAS drives connected - but idle I am guessing.
Patrick is right about the power draw by fans. It is often overlooked.

I am about to power down the SA120 and remove drives.
I will be guessing the fan speed since I will not connect to server with drives taken out.

Wow. I find this number hard to believe.
The reading is fluctuating between 1-4W.
This is bare SA120, 1PS + 1 Controller. All drives removed.
SSD cage (2.5") is not connected on this unit.
I can hear fans so at least the PS fan in on.

I can check the idle draw on the Toshiba SAS but I would guess 4-6W.
so virtually all of the draw is drives idling or minimal use.
clearly the fans kicking in can burn up more amps.

I'm kinda torn but here's another idea: Lenovo ThinkServer SA120 DAS Array / 70F10000UX / 3 Year Warranty!

You could buy that as well and have a dual port SAS setup.

Depends on the hard drive tray costs. Another option is this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lenovo-Thin...al-Power-Supply-Dual-Controller-/331808359562

$445 with dual SAS controllers.

$9 per tray here (OBO) New 3.5" HDD Tray 03X3969 31052813 Lenovo RD640 RD630 RD540 RD440 US-Seller with over 1300 sold so that's $108 worth of trays.

Actually, that dual SAS controller one is really interesting to me now. $315 for 8TB SAS hard drives ST8000NM0075 Seagate 8TB Enterprise Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM SAS 12Gb/

measured 39.5w idle (booted) on my SA120.
One reason I think the 1-4W number is too low but 80W with medium fans and 12 drives indicates that the unit should not be 40W but I need to check the draw on idling drives. SAS drives usually consume more power.

Not to go too far off topic but I just measured 40 watts for a CSE-825TQ with an X9SCM and a dell h310. It went to 60 with four x 1TB drive and 80 with four x 1TB and four by 2TB drives, everything idle. 5 watts for 3 1/2 spinning rust seems the going rate.

Using that as a guide, 40 watts for a SA120 is pretty good. I may get one after I fill the boxes I already have. I'll pass on the 2TB drives though.
