Looks like new BIOS for the original cwwk board with JMB585 - anyone has insight into what may be changed/has tried it?

Merry Christmas!
Anyone using CW-ADLN-NAS-DC board? Hardly can find any information. I'm not interested in NAS functionality, rather just building power effective home server (proxmox based with Home assistant, frigate NVR, router/firewall). Is this board any good? What about power consumption? Considering 4 NICs and SATA controller it should be higher than CWWK X86 P5 mini computer.

Hi everyone,

This is my first time building a home server (really just a beginner overall!), and I bought the purple CW-NAS-ADLN-K i3-N305 board from the Topton store on AliExpress. Everything looks good so far except for two issues with the 6 SATA ports. In the BIOS, only 3 of the 6 are shown, and my Silicon Power 2.5" SATA 256 GB SSD isn't detected in any of the ports.

My main Windows 10 computer was able to detect it, and I was able to burn Ubuntu onto it.

I was able to burn Ubuntu onto my Teamgroup MP44 1 TB NVMe SSD with the CWWK mobo, can boot into it fine, and I've installed all the updates, but I don't see my SP SSD detected there either.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? Topton has been trying to help me, and we've successfully upgraded the BIOS to CW-NAS-ADLN-KV10_BootSATA_20240624 using Ventoy, but that didn't fix the issue. They suggested trying with a Seagate or W2 SSD to test, but I wanted to check if there's a BIOS setting I could try (or that I'm missing) before buying a new drive. Otherwise, I feel like my SP SSD is fine, and that I have a defective board.

FYI I'm using the Crucial 32GB DDR5 4800 MHz RAM, and a Corsair RM750x PSU.

Thank you in advance!

Hello,

I have 4 questions, if someone can help a total n00b out:
1. I know it has 6 SATA slots. Can the new purple board support 6 x 18TB MG09 SATA HDDs?
2. I'm planning to use Proxmox VE to run -> opnSense/ZFS/Ubuntu, but this only has 2 Ethernet ports, does that mean, only two out of three VMs can get unique IPs?
3. How does one acquire the purple board? Is this, the correct link?
4. Is there a 1U/2U chassis recommendation so that I can slot this purple board + HDDs into my server rack?

Thank you.

Hi FriedPheesh! I have exactly the same board from CWWK, which should be an OEM manufacturer of these boards.
First, the SATA ports on the board come from ASM1166 and are not shown in the BIOS. I have inserted 4x WD 14Tb HDDs and they have been shown in the system. These settings in BIOS probably related to internal SATA, which do not present on the board.
The board came with a version of BIOS, which does not allow booting from SATA. Topton probably sent you the BIOS version, which allows boot from SATA. I did not have this version and I do not need it (I won't bott from SATA anyway).
Here are the BIOS versions
There is no compatibility lists for drives and memory, you have to try yourself.

1) yes
2) that's not how ip allocation works, you can have multiple ip's on the same NIC
3) yes
4) No. Google case that support ITX

Hi, I have a problem with my n305. I want to install Proxmox, but as soon as the boot process starts, I can see on the screen that the drivers are loading (atached picture) and the system restarts to the primary Proxmox window. What is wrong?

Hey all, new here but thought I'd register to ask about this. I'm interested in the purple N305 board direct from CWWK to replace the old C2750D4i in my unRaid/Plex server and have a few questions:

  1. Do I need to bother with cooling on this or can I go entirely fanless? (My existing setup in my Node 304 case has case fans). Wondering whether to just get the option that includes the JONSBO cooler or if there are better options out there.
  2. Has anyone with this had success with hardware accelerated transcoding in Plex when running in a Docker container in unRaid?
  3. Is it worth waiting for the N355 or should I just take the plunge on the N305? Seems like it's not that much of an upgrade so will probably just go straight for 305

1) Would recommend cooling. You can set the fan to spin at high temp. If you read through the topic you can find other options.

2) (yes) , using LXC and docker in proxmox.

3) Not really performance wise. They might opt to make a new design, but nonetheless they are still limited by the 9 PCI 3.0 lanes.

Thank you that's super helpful. I've gone ahead and ordered the one with the cooler so I'll see how it goes, hopefully I find the time to install it once it arrives.

I purchased N305 NAS Motherboard 6-Bay SATA 4xLAN.
I am using Crucial RAM 32GB DDR5 4800MHz SODIMM CL40 CT32G48C40S5.
Unable to install any OS. As soon as the installation starts, the system restarts.
I contacted the seller - he replied that I need to use SAMSUNG RAM. This is an additional 120 EUR, and if it doesn't work properly after that.

Few things to check -
Have you connect the cpu power plug as well as the main 24 pin plug?
I assume you've installed a cpu fan on the copper block?
Some units suffer from poor contact between the cpu and the copper block. There are ways to fix this but the simplest is probably Arctic Cooling TP-3 thermal pads. They have the advantage that you can stack upto 3 of them to fill a bigger gap.
If the bios gives you access to memory timings then try slowing down the memory to 4400 or 4000.

Depending what board you actually have, there may be existing advice on the forum. Check the labelling on the board, probably CW-..... or BK....

Thanks for the feedback.

Yes, of course.

Yes

The processor temperature does not rise above 25 degrees, so I think everything is fine here. Also, it only idles for a few minutes.
If the bios gives you access to memory timings then try slowing down the memory to 4400 or 4000.
In the BIOS section Chipset -> Maximum Memory Frequency -> 4200 (also 4400, 4800 and AUTO).
No changes.

My MB is labeled CW-ADLN-NAS.

The strange thing is that in the forums where this MB is discussed, users specifically recommend using this Crucial RAM 32GB DDR5 4800MHz SODIMM CL40 CT32G48C40S5 as RAM and write that everything works stably for them.
