I'm looking to use one of these for pfsense.
It has one msata port and one regular sata port. It only has one power port for sata (not a standard one - it comes with a cable to adapt to the drive).
- For dual boot drive do the SSD's need to be identical, or can I use 2 similarly specced ones...
Hey!
I wanted to migrate my pfsense Box to OPNSense this weekend and so far it's gone horribly wrong and the anxiety slowly starts to hit. The system was running perfectly fine for 3-4 years with pfsense, and now I plugged in the OPNSense installer USB, wanted to reboot and it booted to EFI...
Hi all,
I have a Supermicro E300-4CN8TF that needs a new home.
It's been rocking ESXi 6.7 (But is capable of 7.0) and doing stellar service for the last few months. But I don't need two of these. So give it a new home - Run PFSense, OPNSense, VMs, Dockers etc.
It's got SFP+ / 10Gbe / 4xGbE -...

I am looking for a NIC for my new Dell server. I currently have a 2Gb fiber connection delivered on a 2.5GbE link, but in the mid-future will be getting a 10 gig connection and would like to keep my options open with the NIC. Planning to run pfSense over Proxmox.
For pfsense's sake, I was...
I hope I'm phrasing the question right. I've got a configuration in place right now, and I want to reconfigure, but the terms and concepts are confusing me a bit. I only sort of understand the concept and I'm trying to learn this stuff and apply it to my setup.
At the moment, my inter-VLAN...
Hey all. So I have just replaced my old Cisco 2921 with a little pfSense build on a desktop box with an added 4 port NIC card. All just GB connections, so nothing fancy there. I thought it would just be a case of remove and replace. That didn't seem to work though.
Firstly, my entire network...
I'm having a problem where pfSense on ESXi 7u2 can't push more than half a gigabit through using VMXNET3 adapters inside pfSense with 4 vCPUs, but I can't get gigabit speeds. Only half.
I tried disabling Kernel PTI mitigations, disabling network card offloading, raising the queues on the...
I happened to have a chance to buy this fanless router but I am not sure how good it is to use it for Pfsense for a 1000Mbps WAN internet. Can someone shed some light? Thank you!

I want to replace my Unifi Dream Machine Pro and go with a custom system / setup and I am ideally looking for something like the SuperMicro SuperServer 5018D-FN8T - primarily because it has at least one 10Gbit / SFP+ and a handful of 1Gbit ports and a beefy enough CPU for what it is supposed to...
I am in the process of upgrading my home network for this year. I am moving to 10GB and also want to redo the networking to make it more efficient etc.

Welcome to the $1,000,000 question topic :D
My OpenVPN install residing on an ESXi 7 host (E5-2695v2, 4C allocated, 8GB RAM) is able to push barely 200Mbps through OpenVPN with Hardware-based VT and IOMMU enabled for the VM. Algorithm is currently AES-128-GCM. Two VMXNET3 NICs are configured...
Hi all!
I'm looking to get rid of my current AIO and go with a more managed approach to the home network. Here is what I'm thinking of doing:
I have three questions for the parts list:
While the Intel I350T4V2 NIC looks great, is it overkill for what I'm wanting to do? I want to make sure...
Trying to install an OPNsense latest version guest in CentOS 8 and KVM for the first time on HP t730 and it get stuck at boot. Tried pfsense latest version, with the same result. However, it works booting the same image from USB.
Any help appreciated :)
Hey folks,
I’ve been noticing that my UnRaid server is getting a tad long in the tooth in terms of speed of docker containers running and the VMs. Granted the server is running on an old FX-8320 and 16GB of DDR3 ram.
So I think it’s time to upgrade but I don’t know which path to take...
Hi All,
Altice just rolled out fiber in my area (NJ) and I have been searching for a way around using their crap ONT/Gateway AIO. From what i've read, you need to keep the provided hardware and double NAT the network.. This isn't an optimum *pun intended* solution for me. So here is what I am...
