I think it ramps up regarding the package temperature. In your case 89°C.
The problem is that the P cores get hot quite fast. Unfortunately thats like the Intel CPUs are.
You can try to tweak the fan settings a little in the bios but as long as you are seeing high package temperatures i am not sure if if you can avoid it completely.

I still wonder what is the thermal solution between the CPU and the heatsink. Someone said it is liquid metal but i am not certain.

Finally my MS-01 is there. but I still have some crazy behavior.
I've the i9-12900H version, and I try to figure out what is going on with my new memory.
At the beginning I was thinking that they are too slow to work (since on specs it's listed to work at 5200M/T) while mine are only 4800M/T. But some friends confirm that with different brands, works also at 4800M/T.

So I ended up to install a dedicated GPU just for a test, the GeForce GT710, and boom, with a dedicated GPU the system boot up normally without any problem.

The ram that I'm currently using are:
SABRENT Rocket DDR5 SO-DIMM 64GB (2X32GB) 4800MHz (SB-DR5S-32GX2)

Anyone else notice similar crazy stuff?

I looked at how the heatsink is mounted here are some pictures.

There is two other screws covered up by the heatsink cover

The cover has adhesive that you can peel

Don't know if it is better to find the other mount holes and puncture the cover or peel the cover every time.

Did you end up taking off the heatsink? Im curious what different thermal paste would do for temps.

I did not was hoping someone braver would do it. Heatsink is aluminum so liquid metal will work good.

That would be very costly to Minisforum I doubt they are using liquid metal but hey we wont know until someone takes the heatsink off. Any Chinese manufactured mini pc I have purchased in the past had crappy paste on it including Minisforum.

Ok, guys I took one for the team lol. Don't even try to pull the adhesive cover off the cpu block it will tear mine did.

The paste is dried and cheap, it just flaked right off.




After I cleaned it good with alcohol:


Liquid metal applied (Be careful you want a thin layer due to the pcb being so small and it took awhile of massaging to get the liquid metal to stick):


Here is where the back screws are so you don't have to peal the adhesive cover:


Idle temps I am seeing a 3C drop and I put the server under a load before and hit 65C and after with same test I hit 45C.

So end result 20C improvement.

Even if you don't do liquid metal I recommend new thermal paste.

Wow, 20C temperature difference is significant. What kind of liquid metal is this? Link?

Must say i9 version running video on VM with iGPU cranks up the fan pretty high, makes me wonder how long the fan will last. Anybody tried to optimize the power?

That gives me hope to bring down that annoying fan noise once the CPU goes into Turbo mode,

Answering my own question posed above, looks like disabling Turbo mode in BIOS significantly reduces power hunger CPU and in turn the fan noise. Pretty noticeable difference. Will experiment with liquid metal this weekend.

Anybody knows what is purpose of that cushion like cover over the heatsink? Help tunnel the air flow?

Yeah you got it... its to not let any air escape and tunnel it out the back of the case.

The linked Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut says it must not be used on aluminium.

Notice the copper heatpipe and look at the cleaned heatsink cpu surface looks plated to me polished aluminum is really shiny. Usually copper heatpipes mean its plated copper. The fins look aluminum. Correct me if I am wrong?
