Just got my H2216JFQJR from kalleyomalley. This thing is going to kill my power bill and it's going to be amazing. Now I need to find a bunch of cheap SSDs to fill up the 16 2.5" drive slots on the front, along with 8 new CPUs.

I also ended up buying a P2416IP4LHJC. Figure I'll turn it in to a dual E5-2670 desktop. Should have more than enough resources to run an HTC Vive.

My R2312GL4GS came in today. Easily installed both E5-2670 chips, 64GB of the Nanya, the RMS25JB080, redundant power supply, and a 10G Mellanox card. First thing I did was upgrade the system board firmware. Out of the box it had a system critical alarm for some over voltage, the update fixed it and cleared the error. A USB stick with the firmware files dumped on it's root booted and autostarted the firmware update script, very very simple.

Guess I lucked out @jwegman my RMS25JB080 came with the D1 steppping and was able to EFI flash the 9207-8i firmware without issue. Seems to be working fine.

Idling at about 103W right now. The RMM w/ console and storage redirect is pretty awesome.

Overall very happy with kalleyomalley and natex for good service quick delivery.

Congrats! It's not surprising that they have a mix of inventory; just a bummer that Intel didn't label the outside of the ESD packaging to indicate the PBA or stepping...

Per PCN (Product Change Notification) document 111829 - 00, list the PBA's (little white stickers on the cards) for the B0 (pcie gen2) stepping with the -302 suffix; these crossflash as LSI 9205-8e:
RMS25JB080 (mezzanine form factor): G35851-302
RMS25KB080 (pcie form factor): G35828-302

And the D1 (pcie gen3) stepping, with the -310 suffix; these crossflash as LSI 9207-8i:
RMS25JB080: G35851-310
RMS25KB080: G35828-310

I haven't seen a FUP4X35HSDK, but it takes the same space as FUP8X25HSDKS whcih I have two of, and they will *not* fix in the 2x5.25" bays...

The only drive cage from Intel designed for the P4000's 2x5.25 bays is the FUP8X25HSDKO (which I also have 2 of), and that was only listed as compatible with the P4000L chassis, though nothing is stopped me from using in in the P4000M...:
Intel FUP8X25HSDKO Spare 8x2.5 Hot-Swap Drive Cage Kit for 5.25" Cage Area New (they accepted $40 offers - hell of a deal for an 8x2.5" HSBP drive cage that's designed to fit into 2x5.24" bays; they only have 1 left)

Each of my P4000M's are currently config'd with (1) FUP8X35HSDK and (1) FUP8X25HSDKO.

Then my R2000 has 12x3.5 HSBP drive cage, with 2x2.5 internal SSD's (mounted to the air duct). I bought that one primarily for the 12x3.5 bays...
@jwegman Are you sure that FUP8X25HSDKS will not fit P4000's?
Intel lists they suit: "Hot-Swap 8 x2.5" Disk Drive Cage Kit for storage area for P4000M/P4000L chassis" EDIT: Is storage area different to 5.5" bays? i.e to replace 3.5" HDD cage?
Spare 8x2.5 Hot-Swap Drive Cage Kit FUP8X25HSDKS Specifications

kallyomalley has 46 available @ $199 each. If anyone has bought one, what was the best offer price that was accepted?

PS: Intel AXX2IOS I/O Shield for S2600CP2, S2400SC2, and S2400GP2 New Bulk Packaging are also avail. What was best price that people have bought them?

Sure FUP8X25HSDKS will *fit* the P4000 chassis, just *not* in the top 2x5.25" drive bays. You must not expect this to fit along side an 8x3.5" drive cage. However you can fit (2) of the FUP8X25HSDKS in place of a 8x3.5" cage, or I suppose beside a 4x3.5" cage...

All the HSBP drive cages that have been discussed thus far (the 8x3.5" and 8x2.5" for the P4000's) have been SAS/SATA3 6gbs. Dunno where you were finding otherwise. :(
Are you sure they are 6gbps? At the end of the product code I see 3G ,which I took to be 3gbps speed and only SATA I/II. Are there certain models that are 6gbps verified? I'm interested in these servers but I'm a bit concerned over the speed as I can't find hide nor hair saying that the trays and bays are 6gbps.

Example:

I didn't really need / buy one but they initially countered $65 for FUP8X25HSDKS. I don't remember but probably my initial offer was about #35.

The lowest they go on FUP8X35HSDKS is $40. It can accommodate both 2.5/3.5 drives. I got P4216 chassis and changed out to the P4308 config and was planning to get the 5.25 bay kit and they are sold out now.

IO shield & Passive heat sinks were around $6 each. The low profile heatsinks from NATEX are not designed for P4000 chassis/Airduct.

Airduct for S2600CP MB $15

Hope this helps.

Dude, AXX6DRV3G aint't listed *anywhere* in the P4000 compatible lists... In fact, it's for an older SC5400 series chassis. Put that back in the dumpster and stick with stuff listed as compatible with the P4000's...

Thanks for the clarification. There's lots of part models floating around.

Is there a recommended list that someone has put together stating the ideal 'models' to get starting with the server case and the HDD systems?

I checked through the last 3 pages and I didn't see much to go off of.

Yeah, use your google-fu and search for 'intel p4000 spares'; it'll lead you to this pdf:

These are all the parts you need.

I went ahead and started without you :D

Found the same thing:

http://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/motherboards/server/sb/p4000_cg_r2_3.pdf

theoretically I could use:

1. 8x3.5 (under the door) - FUP8x35HSDK
2. 8x2.5 (in the 5.25 bay) - FUP8x25HSDK0 (is this a 1 bay unit? looks like it)

I'm trying to maximize the amount of hard drives in this unit as I need to replace my NAS.

QUESTION: How loud are the dual supply fans? Mini hurricanes? Obnoxious? Is the PSU with a single 750W PSU available to be swapped out with a different more quiet PSU. I am trying to decrease the fan noise in my server room.

The PSU fans are the most obnoxious noise coming out of this machine. They use those tiny 1U ducted fans and sound like they are going to take off. That being said, beyond the initial startup, I haven't heard them spin up during operation even when pulling 600W continuously. The CPU fans definitely started spinning up, but they aren't too bad at all.

As for the drives, You can get an Icy Dock 8x2.5 -> 2x5.25 into the drive bay at the top or a 4x3.5 into there. The one model 4216M(pick what you like for the suffix) has 16 2.5" bays in the bottom.

I don't mind initial startup fan noise, that's a given.

I don't want the mini-hurricanes that I usually have to deal with in Hotswap PSU's as that defeats the purpose. Any idea on the DB noise level?

I've got IcyDock's (5n3's 3.5 and 6n1 2.5) and wish i could replace the bottom 4n3 3.5" drives in the Intel with the 5n3's. Anyone try that yet?

Anyone have any opinions on this Supermicro barebones system?

Supermicro 6027R-CDNRT+
*LGA2011, LSI3108 RAID (8xSAS3), 4xNVMe, 2x10GBase-T

Was thinking it would make a nice esxi/hyper-v/kvm/xen server. Lots of the newer X10 (v3/v4) features in a X9 (v1/v2) server. I was looking at it for a real nice SDS (software defined storage) solution (vsan/scaleio/etc) but from my understanding the SDS solutions tend to use HBA's not real RAID cards. And the 3108 is a real RAID card and there seems to be some issues with LSI JBOD firmware?

I've got nothing but good things to say about Supermicro servers. They are truly a great whitebox system to utilize for the price.

I think you'll have a great bit of luck with this system.
