So I'm curious to get into cli based switches (learning vyos with ansible was great!). I'm looking to learn and replace an switch without poe in my living room.

The ICX7150-C12P seems to be very interesting, with sfp+, poe and a small size. but I'm open to other suggestions, given that it has the same or very similar characteristics.

If you don't mind a challenge, find a claimed MS220-8P for cheap and flash my firmware ;)

Fair warning though, it won't be suitable if you need detailed documentation or advanced networking features.

The 7150 is a great little switch - I have 8 or 9 of them. Fanless, PoE, with 2x SFP+. Some people have reported that power supply modules have gone bad but I haven't experienced that yet. The SFP+ feature is a licensed feature although some work-arounds are possible if you read the extensive Brocade thread.

eBay has had these switches for $150-175 lately - what I would consider a good price given the value.

These comments are not meant to elevate the 7150 above other switches mentioned in this thread because I don't know the other switches. I am merely saying that the 7150 has been great for me, and I have standardized on it for small-switch needs, as a FYI for your decision-making purposes.

Yeah, I do not think that you will get them much cheaper than around $150 lately unless it is a damaged unit. That said, considering it has SFP+ and fanless, it is pretty hard to beat for the price.

The MS220-8P is nice also, but does not have SFP+ so It does not really compare to it spec wise.

I could live with MS220-8P not having SFP+, since it has 10 GbE/RJ45 (or what we call it) it would fill that need as well. It's just more expensive than I'd like at this point.

I'm monitoring 7150 on eBay but a lot of the cheaper ones won't ship to Europe. Oh well. It will probably take some time, which is fine!

The MS220-8P doesn't have 10GBase-T.

I wasn't aware 10G was a requirement (your original post said very similar characteristics, and I wasn't sure if SFP+ was a requirement or a nice-to-have) if that's the case then the MS220 is a non-starter.

I'll at least read that thread, thanks!

Sorry, I quoted the wrong model. I meant WS-C3560CX-8XPD-S when talking about 10Gb.

The Cisco will probably be quite more expensive than the icx7150. I think, on that form factor, that is one of your best bets feature-price wise. There is also the ex2300-c from Juniper but that will be more on par with the Cisco prices (probably 300+)

one of my favorite switches is the EX2200-C-12T-2G and you can find it on ebay for around $100

i believe that is the poe model.

Yes, the EX2200-C is great (the PoE model is the EX2200-C-12P-2G if I am not mistaken though) but suffers from the same issue as the one that @hmartin was mentioning, which is it does not support 10GbE. For that you would need to go to the ex2300.
