wanted to ask what you folks think is a decent price for some 16gb ddr3 ecc ram on ebay. outside of buying new stuff for the office, i've never really bought some for myself, so guidance from veterans is appreciated.

I've seen the fast stuff on ebay recently for $59 so that's not bad IMHO.
    Maybe BO them $49 ?

Looking for RDIMMs to match what I have (Kingston 1600), I've been starting to see stuff in the low to mid $50s. It seems like prices had been up into 70's and 80's for the past few months.

If you are disciplined and have patience (opposite of me :) ), you can pick-up 10600 or even 12800 for $40-45 on BOs and even in auctions. Depends of course on how quickly you need

Lot of the pc3-8500R on the ebay are 4Rx4. So make sure you don't run into max rank limitation.

    newb question: max rank limitation?
never really built hardware for myself yet. most of the stuff i got at the office came from vendors, so never had to figure stuff like that before.

I might be wrong but I think it's like this:

Take a look at the top of page 3 on this http://www.supermicro.com/support/resources/memory/X9_DP_memory_config_socket_R.pdf

Basically you can have 8 ranks per channel. 2 quad rank = 8 so 2 dimms per channel. 4 dimms total per proc (0n socket 2011)
