I have read several threads on this forum about how CPU VRM temperatures may get out of hand in a full tower workstation case with Supermicro H11DSi especially for high TDP CPUs (e.g. 7f52). A few of these posts recommend for builders to use a 4U chassis instead and just deal with the noise. I have several builds with Phanteks Enthoo Pro 2 and Dark Base Pro 900 cases and Noctua NH-U14S coolers and haven’t had any issues during stress tests running for several hours and even for parallel CFD calculations running for over a week. Based on what I have seen so far, I am maxing out at VRM CPU temperatures around 71-72C with heavy loads.
So what VRM temperatures should I be concerned about on the H11DSi that require additional action?
See below for some results from ipmitool I obtained from testing a machine with H11DSi + 2x7f52 (258GB RAM) in a Dark Base Pro 900 case with three 1000rpm front fans, one 1000rpm back fan and Noctua NH-U14S coolers with 1500rpm fans blowing upwards (fans were at full speed during test):
stress-ng —cpu 30 —vm 30 —vm-bytes 75%
