This eBay seller has 6 WD SN720 2TB nvme drives for $63 plus $12 ship (if you buy multiples the shipping stays the same)

* I'm not affiliated with this seller, but did buy some for my servers.

Meh performance, pass (fyi this is a joke because I wouldn't have a choice even if I wanted since they sold so fast)

Not that it matters as these are long gone, but just in case some of these pop up again...

Isn't the SN720 basically the OEM version of the SN750? I have a 4yr old SN750 in my desktop that still gets 3GB/s+ reads and 1.6GB/s writes after years of abuse. I'm not sure that's fair to compare to spinning rust that maxes out at 200MB/s...

It also is irrelevant if you're putting these in a mini-pc and NEED to fill m2 and sata, can't throw in 3x sata 2.5" that's not happening

We have a winner .

For my usage
First M2 holds high performance nvme ssd for OS and VM , second slot is for data storage nvme ssd.

I check Ebay 1.92TB SSD everyday, not easier to find 1.92tb SATA SSD cheaper than nvme

"Slow" can mean so many things.

We are smart people.
We shouldn't be resorting to such useless words, especially when trying to give other people information.

Compare:
  • Drive A
    • 5/8µs read/write latency
    • 250MB/s random writes
    • 1500MB/s sequential reads
  • Drive B
    • 80/100µs read/write latency
    • 1500MB/s random writes
    • 2500MB/s sequential reads
  • Drive C
    • 120/180µs read/write latency
    • 550MB/s random writes
    • 15000MB/s sequential reads
Each one is "slow" in some way, but great in another.

This is especially important for enterprise hardware, which tends to be more specialized than regular "consumer" hardware.
That's why you will find a dozen different skus for drives of the same size from the same manufacturer.
  • High endurance
  • Write intensive
  • Read intensive
  • Mixed workload
  • Density optimized
  • Latency optimized
  • I've even seen power optimized, but I'm skeptical why you would do that over Density optimized...
In the case of these WD SN720 2TB drives...
  • Read/Write performance is...fine.
  • Latency numbers aren't even listed.
  • Power seems pretty low.
    • 9.25w spikes
    • 0.14w average "active" power
    • 0.1w average in "low" power mode
    • 2.5mw sleep power

Unfortunately the 720 isn't the same as the 750, not in any of my testing anyway - it bottlenecks far quicker, and when it hits that bottleneck, does so far harder (fairly extreme latency values). Nvmecli shows the same controller, but seems like either the cache is shrunk, the storage chips are of a lower /lesser tier (maybe those which failed to bin at their full data rate? idk), or some combination of the two.

... This should probably all be taken with a grain of salt though, as the 750SE's and even 770s haven't been as solidly consistent for me as the original 750s have been - heck, maybe it's a platform thing on my end

I was going to buy these a few days ago and asked the seller about health, they said "80%+ Health! "

I prefer at or near 100% health for just $10-$20 more (probably on better models), so I passed.

If you are running a mini PC and just need a storage drive for the 2nd M.2 slot, there are plenty of used 2TB NVMe drives it the same performance range for around $70-85, which makes $63 nothing really special. I picked up a 2TB Samsung 980 Pro (a much more performant drive) for $110.

It would be different if you needed 20x drives, since saving $20-30 a drive would be worth it.
