Looking at specs it says 32GB max ram for T740, probably why it doesn't accept them on a single module. I've had issues with Lenovo and Supermicro boards based on Intel C236 running a single 32GB ECC Udimm. Boots but it's unstable. Replace it with 2x16gb and it's fine. Ryzen machine with x570 runs no problem with said 32gb udimm.

Alas, these did not work in the HP T740. The machine wouldn't POST and the power button flashed/beeped 3-reds / 2-whites before falling silent. On the other hand, it worked in a HP EliteDesk 800 G4
Assume the firmware/BIOS on the T740's fully up to date? Seems like it technically *should* work, unless there's a coded memory capacity limit I'd think...

Mine just arrived, I'll have to try em out this evening!

(Edit: ignore me, I didn't see this was already answered above - apologies!)

Actually, you can have 64GB in the T740. Here's a pair of G.SKill RipJaws being recognized by system:

These do specifically not work in the t740. Another set of (Kingston) ECC 32gb dimms do not prevent booting. Did not check for stability. The Virtium dimms test fine in a HP z2 G4 mini with working ECC.

My P51 doesn't like 4x32 ECC memory :( (no POST)

2x32 does work though, and the BIOS says ECC Enabled. Downside: these are 2133 modules, so I'm leaving about 25% of memory speed on the table. Meh, whatever.

Shoot, they they are just 2133MHz (N6). I was so happy to finally see some reasonably priced ECC SODIMMs that I just bought some, thinking that they were 2666MHz.

I have a feeling that my Dell Precision 7730 won’t just let me override the memory speed; I suppose that it’s time to see what the options for modifying the spd eeprom are these days!
