@rub1k The 8th gen i5s are still plenty powerful. I run about 6 of those in a vmware cluster with 32gb-64gb of memory via iscsi and no issues. For $160, it is a good way to get started, even if they are "old".
Awesome, thanks... re: 6 in a cluster, whoa, that's a lot! Haha.

I was able to snag an EliteDesk 800 G5 with an i5-9600T for ~$150 so I'm excited to play with it here soon.

I changed my everyday computer from Lenovo M73 Tiny to HP 705 G4 65W Mini with Ryzen 2200G and I am delighted with it (PLN 577 ~ USD 140). 2358 in 3Dmark Firestrike allows you to play Bioshock Remastered Full HD at maximum settings or Tomb Rider at low settings without any problems. And the processor performance itself is still higher than the i5-4790T in the Lenovo M73. This is my third 1 liter computer.

I have an Optiplex 7060 Micro that struggles to play 4K YouTube on Linux. Is this a realistic expectation?

It's a rare one that Patrick reviewed, has i5 8500 non-T, 65w heatsink, 130w power adapter. Both DIMMs populated to feed iGPU bandwidth maximally.

Using Firefox? Hardware decode of YouTube needs VAAPI, Mesa >=21, Wayland, WebRender, EGL, and hardware video decode enabled in FF's config. Try a local h.264 file with ffmpeg or vlc first.

I'll check it out. Is it safe to say the hardware should be fast enough if I can fix the software?

The QSV should be able to decode 4k 30fps HEVC and VP9 just fine, though not AV1. Use YouTube's "stats for nerds" menu to check which codec is in use. Even software decode should be able to do it, though perhaps not at 60fps.

Yes, it seems so. I booted up a Windows disk and Firefox played the same video fine, so the software issues on Firefox + Linux should be surmountable.

A quick question if I may.

I'm looking at two Lenovo Tiny PCs on ebay and can't decide which one to go for.
I have previous experience with a Dell 7070 @ 9500T and it did the job for my needs, some light video/photo editing and the occasional gaming, older titles like Company Of Heroes 1.
But if I can have a bit more power without having the mini pc screaming like and engine, why not.

So, a P330 with 8700T+P620 or a M75Q Gen1 with R5 3400GE.

Will any of these be an upgrade from the Dell I had and especially let's say, run CoH1 at 1080p max settings?

HI . Real newb here.
I'd like to build a home server to store music , movies, and photos, run pi-hole, jellyfin, and access this all from remote also
2 questions: Is a dual nic required for such a home server setup?
Is there a pre-configured software suite for all this, or a linux distribution tailored for it to make it easier?

That's a very expensive lesson there, buddy. I feel for you. Many years ago I was also very ignorant on reusing stuff that physically fits, and one day ended up with magic smoke when I used a different brand modular PSU cable on a different PSU, fried my hard disks.
I actually used a riser that is destined for P320 on a later-gen something recently, and while that did work it was detected as x4 only instead of x8. Both systems were bought used and for cheap so I didn't mind experimenting that much, wouldn't have done that to my own P340 I bought new for over 1k at the time.
Did the CPU and SSDs and RAM survive?

Well in pure graphics performance I would say on paper the 3400GE should be better than either the P620 or the built in graphics in the 9500T, but I don't know how dramatic or noticeable it'll be.

I have taken my P340 i7-10700 to the limit, I think. Anyone who has 'more', let me know ;-)
1. 64Gbytes of memory
2. 2x NVMe drives in the 'native' slots (256Gbytes for the OS, 1Tbyte for cache/SLOG/whatever)
3. A PCIe switch card in the 1/2 height PCIe slot. (this provides 4x m.2 slots).
4. 3x 1Tbyte NVMe SSDs (making 4 total with the one in 2: above).
5. A m.2 2280 -> PCIe slot card to connect a LSI 3008i controller (connected to the external power supply)
6. A BPN-SAS3-216EL1 backplane (with in-built SAS expander) to connectup to 24x 2.5" drives (SAS or SATA). (connected to the external power supply)
7. A 2.5Gbit RTL8125B interface in the A+E wifi slot.

Just up to step 2, I have an idle Wattage of 3-4W:

How do you cool that? Do you have an additional fan?

It's sitting right above the air filter unit(on a VESA mount kit, attached to ikea malm desk stand, vertically), which does 2 things: keep it cool, and keep it a little bit less dusty too
Also of course this takes care of the whole room so.
But you know, I believe in completely passive cooling these run at 70-75C with AOC. Maybe up to 80. Idk if that's high or not, but I did run this briefly without any external cooling and everything is still fine. Maybe you shouldn't care about cooling too much, it doesn't directly transfer heat over to the motherboard, the heatsink is on the top too. It probably doesn't matter at all as long as your nvmes are under 50.
