Do you have another (brand) m2 you can try?
@gb00s had an issue with 2 identical nvme drives on SM boards (u2 connector though iirc, didnt find the thread on a quick search), mayne these two are just identical enough that this happens here too?

My issue was with NVMe's connected to the SFF8643 NVMe ports of the SM motherboards. I had no issues with these NVMe's conencted to PCIe via PCIe-card.
