Figured I'd start a dedicated thread here since I'm going to be beginning testing on some cool stuff pretty soon - VMware vGPU with Nvidia GRID K1. I work in IT in the manufacturing sector so we have a lot of users that are doing CAD work, hoping to get rid of the dedicated Dell Precision workstations that they require and build up a separate VMware cluster dedicated for vGPU users.

Here's the homelab as of now:

2 x ESXi 6.0 Hosts:

Supermicro X9SRH-7TF
Xeon E5-2620 v2
ESX1 - 32GB ECC DDR3
ESX2 - 128GB ECC DDR3
Seasonic X-400 Platinum Fanless PSU
Noctua NH-U12
Fractal Define R4
Intel quad port NIC

Always on host has 6x2TB drives in RAIDZ-2 attached to onboard LSI 2308 in IT mode passed through to linux VM running ZFS on linux, sabnzbd, sickbeard, couchpotato and plex

FreeNAS 9.3 Storage

Supermicro X9SCM-F
Xeon E3-1230
16GB ECC DDR3
Seasonic 750W Gold PSU
Norco 4220
Intel quad port NIC
M1015 flashed to 9211-8i
8 x Samsung SM843 480GB SSD's in RAID10 for main VM storage pool
12x1TB 7200rpm drives for bulk storage (only using 4 in RAIDZ1 config for VDP backups currently)

Cisco SG300-28 Switch
Tripp-lite 1000W UPS
Tripp-lite 18U rack

I like Tripp-Lite racks, I have the same one but smaller - (that I outgrew).

@moto316 did you ever look at Citrix? My neighbor works at an engineering firm and that's what they do. The nifty feature is that he can do work from a 2-in-1 convertible from the beach since they've got good wan compression. I know VMware is good now too.

No offense/jab at all...but everytime I hear a suggestion for Citrix I CRINGE...too many bad experiences to even begin and the core dev team seems to consist of a meager team of engineers/coders polishing that turd for years.

VMware Horizon 6.x, VDI for regular users, RDS frontended through Horizon portal for App delivery all day long over PCoIP...puts Citrix to shame and I am saying this from the perspective of deploying/scaling this to a very large community at a Fortune 500-size company where Citrix fell flat on its face...even w/ vendor engagement/design :-(

IMHO, you're headed down the right track w/ K1/K2's and Vmware vGPU goodness.

Pssst, nice setup BTW!
