The color of caps is different from the one when it was just released(link to STH).
Because of the Lenovo OEM, I guess it has > 50% chance that it is able to get firmware update via Micron Storage Executive or via fwupd.

(1) Since the US banning and trying to ban, many designers and manufacturers in China have been developing 2 designs in last 2 years, one with Chinese parts only, and one with US chips.
(2) YMTC 232 layers TLC are in the Chinese market already. So many Chinese blogs said the prices of 4TB and 8TB SSDs will plunge for some brands or already plunged for 2-3 brands.

Are those Chinese SSDs allowed to sell in US? If not, we won't see any price adjustment anytime soon.

The sm863a 960gb and the 1.92tb cloudspeeds were both dumped in massive volumes onto the market, sata ssd prices were bound to take a solid hit from those.
For sata the new/sealed and 98-100% used tend to be the same pricing.

The hyperscalers replacing a few mill of a capacity is what drives the ebay prices, that frenzy between sellers as a bunch of them got 10-100k to move and undercutting eachother.
New makers/skus hitting retail is not really gone make a dent on ebay.

Rest of that capacity pretty much has to dump their prices to a certain degree or be stuck with them.
And if they are stuck with them intil a higher capacity dump comes they are somewhat screwed.

I considered it a great deal when i bought 99-100% 960gb drives at 25-30$/ea a year ago, today it would need to be 1.92tb at that price to peak my interest.
Especialy with how the 7.68tb u.2 drives are starting to appear around 250-260$, i already got full fronts of 960gb and dont want to be in same position with 1.92tb next year.

less than $46 (lowest I saw for the cloud speed) for 1.92TB? quick ebay search does indeed show the micron 5100 ECO at a similar price (excluding shipping). going to look at the datasheets now. EDIT: the performance for the eco models does not appear to be great.

The Cloudspeed and similarly priced Samsung PM863 for sale in high quantities right now are definitely cheaper per GB. If the 2.5" format works for someone, then they are probably a better deal, even with the lottery effect of some seeming practically new and some seeming a bit...thrashed.

OTOH, OPs drives are NEW and M.2 format. For some use cases...for folks that want new, or need 2280 M.2, and are OK with 960GB capacity....these are pretty good IMHO. Being SATA, they'll take up no PCIe lanes in systems with flexible configuration, which could be a plus to some. I've been using these Micron 5100 Pro drives (purchased from a different seller) as boot/VM devices in a couple systems for over a year now problem free.

I've also gotten some of these https://forums.servethehome.com/ind...prise-server-ssd-27-99-w-free-shipping.40972/ (posted by you @Fritz !) for the same purpose where NVMe is preferable (and 22110 fits). That Nvidia SSD should be PM983.

I bought one of the new Nvidia SSD's. It has an awfully nice heat sink but it makes it kinda thick. Is there any way to use it without removing the heatsink.
