i am planning to get 5 servers Supermicro | Products | SuperServers | 2U | 6027R-CDNRT+
to make ceph storage cluster

and i would like to know if i can connect m.2 pcie adapter (with 4 m2 connector) to a single pcie lane

the motherboard supports
  • 1x PCI-E 3.0 x16 (FHHL),
  • 2x PCI-E 3.0 x8 (FHHL), and
  • 1x PCI-E 3.0 x8 (LP)

in page 89 there are indication for Bifurcation support,

planned pcie usage:
  1. mellanox card 2*40 GB
  2. m2 pcie risser to support 4 nvme drives (two for os)
  3. intel optane for WAL journaling
  4. spare
anyone did use a pcie to 4 m2 adapter and made it work? if so what model brand you suggest
