So, I'm currently infatuated with reducing the power footprint of my home network infrastructure.
My current HP J9574A 3800-48G-PoE+-4SFP+ switch has 48 PoE+ ports and 4 SFP+ ports, making it an absolute unit. This comes at a cost however:
That's about 120W, 24/7. Making it a solid 200 bucks a year to run.
Do i need all those 48 ports? No. But the switch was a freebee from work and fills out the rack nicely. However, I'd like to.... switch.... Yes I did it.
What does my new switch need?
1 SFP+ port to connect to my server
4 RJ45 ports 2 PoE+
Be able to handle VLANS
The goal is for it to use as little power as possible. Is there a realtek or broadcom part i need to check out?
Does anyone know of any low power switches that have these requirements?
